In the future I plan on making a help page for building web pages using notepad. I do not use any kind of publishing software. I use note pad, type in the html codes then upload them into my FTP space. It takes longer but it's not limiting like alot of publishers. It gives you the freedom to be creative and build your page like you want it. My advice is LEARN HTML. At the bottom of the page is a good site to learn html and it has alot of really cool (or as my 16 year old would say-really tight lol) extra html tricks too. Meanwhile if you have any problems feel free to e-mail me and ask for help. One thing. I'm not an expert, far from it. I'm just a beginner myself but if I can help I will.
At the bottom of the page is a link for some of the best sites I have found for Learning Html, Animated Gifs (they really need to be updated though), Ebay Help Pages, Anti-Virus sites , one even has a FREE Anti-Virus program, Search Engines, Pottery and Book Links. There are not alot of them but I have spent hours searching for the best ones I could find. Check them out. It's worth the effort. I am still adding on to the page whenever I get time to do it. It needs to be updated though & I don't have much time to do that as Ebay selling keeps me very busy.
I sell on Ebay & have been for over 8 years. I was selling on Ebay before they had User IDs lol-check out MY EBAY ABOUT ME PAGE (they can't say they were not warned in advance, grin) (click on the me icon)
and am also one of Ebays Goodwill Ambassadors and am usually either listing auctions, searching for vintage science fiction books & magazines that I have not read yet (I read alot plus also I read fast & if not for Ebay i'd have a hard time supporting my reading habit), making beaded jewelry, helping someone learn how Ebay works or helping people learn how to upload pictures and/or build a web page as well as being a mother of 2 teenage boys. Just e-mail me and as soon as I get the opportunity to I will try to help you. I will usually get back to you within a day, depends on if I have the time and am not that busy.

NOTICE VERY IMPORTANT INFO BELOW
IF YOU USE AOL'S EASY DESIGNER I CANNOT HELP YOU. IT IS HAS ALOT OF LIMITATIONS AND IS PROGRAMED TO DO ONLY CERTAIN THINGS AND NOTHING ELSE. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR OWN PAGE FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME. IF YOU USE EASY DESIGNER PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL ME AS THERE ISN'T MUCH I CAN DO TO HELP YOU. SORRY BUT THAT'S HOW IT IS.
It took me 5 days as a beginner to finally get my photos up for my auctions. I
kept on asking questions and attempting to do it until I finally got it right. Believe me, I was tempted to throw the computer out the window more than
once. I am hoping to prevent people who are new at this from having to go through the frustrations I went through when I first started. I understand how
frustrating it can be when you are new at this and people try to tell you in computer lingo how to do something. I will try to talk you through it step by step (in english, not computer talk) and if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me (my name is Willow) and I will try to help as best as I can.

I am no expert but I have
been doing it for awhile and once you get the hang of it it's easy. The
hardest part trying to figure out how to do it the first time, so here
goes. If one of the ways to locate your ftp doesn't work try the other. AOL has so many version each a little different it's hard to keep up with the different methods of locating your ftp space.
Step 1A.For 4.0 and 5.0 usersGo to keyword, type in-my ftp space, then click go. It will open up a page that has several options. Look for "View My FTP Space" and click on it. It should bring up your ftp space. Once it is opened up put it in favorites so you can find it faster.
Step 1BFor 6.0, 7.0 , 8.0 & 9.0 users Step 1Hit Ctrl & K on your keyboard. It will bring up keyword, type in ftp & click go. A page will come up. Look for the place that says My FTP Space & click on it. It should bring up a page that has "members.aol.com/yoursceeenname". That is your FTP Space. Put it in favorites so you can find it faster.
Step 2When it opens up click on the "upload" button at the bottom of the page.
Step 3A box will appear, it will say "remote file". Type in the picture file name.Example: pic.jpg. Then click on continue.**NOTE**-One thing to remember is that you need to keep your names 8 characters or less & use all lowercase letters. No capitals and make it alpha-numeric only, numbers and letters only, no spaces dashes etc.
Step 4A box will appear with 2 boxes in it-"Select File" and "Send". Click on Select File.
Step 5Then a box will come up and you need to go to where your jpg is stored on your computer. (Mine is in My Documents. I click on the My Documents folder & then I look for the picture file in the folder.)NOTE: You have to know how to find your picture this way. It's too hard for me to explain how to do that. After you find it double click on it. It should take you back to the select file and send box.
Step 6Click "Send". Your picture should start uploading. (Just like when they update Aol-You know the little file transfers that they do that drive you nuts?)
Step 7When it gets done transfering a
box should appear that says "File Transfer Complete". Once that happens click "Ok".
Step 8-Go to Keyword and type in http://members.aol.com/screename/pic.jpg and click go (for me it would be http://members.aol.com/lav2523/pic.jpg) Substitute your screenname for "lav2523" and the file name of your picture for "pic.jpg".
Step 9-If it uploaded right it should take you to where your picture is IF you uploaded it right. If it doesn't, go back and
make sure you didn't accidentally mispell the filename or use(,)instead of
(.). I have done that a few times myself. If it still doesn't show then it probably didn't upload properly. There are a few different options if this happens. See below in my helpful hints on aol technical issues and how to get around them and/or learn how to avoid them
One more detail that it's important to know. AOL only gives you so much space. You need to delete the files when you don't need them anymore. To do this you highlight the file in your ftp space (members.aol.com), click utilities, then click delete.
Also remember that depending on what version of AOL you are using you can have up to 7 screennames. Each one has 2MB of space. You can use those to build your pages and store pictures. To create a screenname look up and find MY AOL, click on it and look for screenname, click on that and create a new screenname.
Hopefully this will help some of you. Like I said if you have any questions
feel free to e-mail me. Click on the mailbox at the bottom or top of the page.

Here are some helpful tips on getting around AOL's technical problems with pictures.
- Sometimes a picture just refuses to upload. If this happens go to your picture on your hard drive. Rename it and upload it under a different name.
- Once in awhile a picture will disappear from your auctions or web pages. To put it back, just go and re-upload it. It should appear again.
- Here's how you make a link to your picture.
<a href="http://members.aol.com/yourscreename/pic.jpg">Click Here</a>
Change yourscreename to your screenname. Mine is lav2523 and change pic.jpg to the file name of your picture. Example: pot.jpg. Also don't forget to leave a space between the a and the h in the code.
You can practice doing all this by sending yourself e-mails with the link enclosed. If you did it right, when you get your e-mail from yourself it should work. If you didn't you either uploaded the picture wrong or typed the link wrong. Go back and see if you can figure out what you did wrong. Once you figure it out try it again. Keep on trying until you figure it out. And even if it shows as being in your FTP it does not mean that it uploaded properly.
- To start a new line in your auctions.
When you type in the description and you would like to put spaces in between words so they aren't one continual paragraph you use this html code wherever you would like to stop and start a new line. Html Code for making a Line Break <br>
Here's an example of how to do it. This is a yellow coffee cup marked Franciscan in an oval. It is in excellent condition. <br>Buyer pays postage.<br>Postal money orders prefered. <br>. Personal checks take up to 10 working days to clear.
Here's how it will look. This is a yellow coffee cup marked Franciscan in an oval. It is in excellent condition. Buyer pays postage. Postal money orders prefered. Personal checks take up to 10 working days to clear.
HERE IS AN HTML PRACTICE BOARD TO TRY IT ON.YOU TYPE THE WORDS AND CODES INTO THE BOX THEN CLICK ON SEE HTML.LET IT RELOAD AND SCROLL DOWN TO SEE WHAT YOU DID.

I hope this page helps a few people and if I ever get time I will add onto it.
