Auxiliary 499 History
American Legion Auxiliary
Lockman-Jensen Unit 499
How we started - What we do
The Lockman-Jensen Post 499 of the American Legion was formed in Gordon, Wisconsin, on February 26, 1948 with 60 charter members.

The Lockman-Jensen Auxiliary Unit held their first meeting on August 11, 1948 and received their charter on January 11, 1949. We had 24 charter members, and our Unit immediately began service projects for the community for our honored veterans.Today we have over 120 loyal women members who continue to work for the success of this Unit and the benefit of veterans.
Throughout the year we have many activities and perform many services for the community. Every year since 1949 the Auxiliary has participated in the Memorial Poppy Program, and we join our Post in Memorial Day services and activities. Our sewing group makes needed items for our veterans and provides them to veterans' hospitals in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Upper Michigan. We have established a scholarship program, and we also sponsor girls for Badger Girls State. We also assist our Post with the annual Children's Christmas Party, a tradition since 1948.
Through popcorn sales on the 4th of July, quilt and craft raffles throughout the year, and contributions from members and friends of the Auxiliary, we raise the funds needed to pay for our sewing supplies and community service programs.
For many years our meetings were held in the Gordon Town Hall. On March 11, 1983, we held our first meeting in our current home, our own building in Gordon. The Auxiliary and the Post hold their meetings on the second Friday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Auxiliary also meets twice each month to continue our sewing projects for veterans.
