And my footsteps are halfsteps, to walk is a treat. I rise in the morning and nap around noon, And hope that by evening a friend comes by soon. If only a phone call or a knock at the door. If a stranger stopped by, I wouldn't feel so poor. I look out the window and watch for the mail. It is hard to be ninety all wrinkled and pale. My mind seems to wander, my thoughts are not clear. And I say a few words knowing no one will hear. The hurt in my voice or the fear in my heart. Can I care for myself, can I still do my part. Alive but not living as I try not to feel The tears on my cheeks, I know they are real. And I try not to think that God passed me by. I have waited so long just for one last goodbye. Grandma's last goodbye was at age 92. At her side, in tears, I kissed her cheek and whispered "I love you Grandma", For a brief moment I crossed over to the other side with her, and I heard voices say, "We are all here with you now, we are all here". At that same moment, I felt a presence I had never known before flow thru my entire body. My tears stopped as quickly as they had started, but not of my will, and the inner peace that filled my body was beyond words. I carry that feeling with me always. I love you Grandma.
