We played together, her and me. Went out of bounds to the creek, Mom paddled us from cheek to cheek, Never bothered her and me, We were sisters, two and three. We were sisters, five and six, Played hide-n-seek and pick-up-sticks, Dad turned the porch light on at nine. We'd go home and things were fine. Weren't any problems we couldn't fix. We were sisters, five and six. We were sisters, nine and ten, She started getting other friends. I did flips and acrobats, Wore bobby socks, but she wore flats. We fought a little now and then, We were sisters, nine and ten. Then she got older, in her teens. I was tag-a-long in jeans. A formal gown, a boyfriend, I in t-shirt and bobby pins. Distant homes became the norm, But we were sisters still, in form. As years went by we worked and played, Still kept in touch, each in our way. Those special days, some rich, some poor, Got caught in glass revolving doors. We shared laughter and some tears, We were sisters, up in years. Sharing secrets we had done, Sometimes pretty funny ones. Uninhibited in thought, Advising each the others plot. At times we went our separate ways, But we were sisters through the haze. Sometimes we judged the other wrong, Until we understood each song. An understanding from within, On where the other one had been. Now stronger in our giving ways, We are sisters still today. No longer small tots out to play, But we still tattle some today. Looking back some change I see, But one true fact will always be, She turned forty before me, 'Cause I was two and she was three.
