Kensington Book Festival “International Day of the
Book” Sunday, April 22, 2007,
Howard Avenue Old Towne Kensington, Maryland
20895
I
had a great time at this celebration of local authors and
the importance of books: The Book, not
just as pages of words, but as art, music, and knowledge. Authors talked
about their work, sold authographed copies of their
books, and there were activities for young and old alike. My
son, who came with my husband to pick me up, had
the opportunity to meet and chat with Sherlock
Holmes and his partner, Dr. Watson. Needless to say, he is now an ardant Sherlock
Holmes fan.

Fort Meade Officers'
Wives' Club Tea Party Fort Meade, MD February 21, 2007
On February 21st, I had a
wonderful time at a Tea Party with the Fort Meade Officers’ Wives’ Club
members, arranged by Kim Lowe. Many of my author friends were there, including
Cathy Maxwell, Diane Gaston (aka Diane Perkins), Hope Tarr, Sophie Nash,
Mary Jo Putney, Glenda Garland,
Meredith Bond, Kathryn Jensen, Ruth Glick (aka Rebecca York) and other authors.

It was wonderful meeting the Officers’ wives who attended. One of the highlights
of the event was finally being able to meet Kathryn Falk, the founder and CEO
of Romantic Times Magazine. Kathryn
also possesses the title of Lady of Barrow and founded the nonprofit
organization, Support Our Soldiers (SOS) America, Inc., which promotes service
to troops, including shipping books overseas. The funds raised from the Fort
Meade Tea will be donated to SOS by Kim Lowe at the Romantic Times Booklovers’ Convention,
April 25-29, in Houston, Texas.

Romance Writers' Annual Retreat April 30 - May 2, 2004
|

|
WRW's
Annual Retreat is a wonderful event that sells out within
a few days. Why? Because it's a writers' retreat in
every sense of the word. The location, Hilltop
House in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, is so idyllic
that agents and editors love to attend. Here I am pictured
with Kate Duffy, Editorial Director of Kensington
Publishing Corporation. She's one of our favorite people
-- a great speaker with a marvelous sense of humor.

April 25, 2004 Bethesda Literary
Festival, Bethesda,
MD

"Romance is in the Air"
signing during Bethesda's 2004 Literary Festival, at
Just Cakes, a new bakery located at 4849 Rugby Avenue
in Bethesda. Authors who joined me are (left to right):
Glenda Garland, Meredith Bond, yours truly, Michelle Monkou and
Mia Zachary.
|
|
Here
I am with Marger Shinnerer, owner of Just Cakes
(left).
Just Cakes
specializes in wedding cakes, but I can assure you that
they make lots more than that. They also serve coffee and have
a seating area for those who want to read
and enjoy the atmosphere, plus a nice assortment of
great gifts and baking items.
|
|
Marge's
husband, Bill, chatting with Glenda and Merry. I
wonder if he's sharing the secret of his extra-scrumptious
chocolate chip cookie recipe? They're the best I've
ever tasted. And speaking of tastes, Just Cakes
carries some wonderful hard to find items, like Earth & Vine Provisions' Culinary Sauces.
I'm especially fond of the Gauva Prickly Pear Cactus.

October 12-13, 2003 West
Virginia Book Festival
I had a great time at this two-day
event, held at the Civic Auditorium in Charleston. A good friend and
author, Sherri Neilsen, convinced me to go and I am so glad I did. I met some
wonderful authors, including Robert W. Clinger, Douglas Boren, and Chris Atkins.
I also spoke to many wonderful readers and some booksellers, including Michael
Sublette from Frog Creek Books, located at the Capitol "Farmer's" Market.
My husband and kids decided to
come with me and, the first evening, we dined at Chef Dan's, where we listened
to some wonderful jazz and enjoyed some of the best Italian food I've ever
tried. If you ever get to Charleston, Chef Dan's is a don't miss
restaurant!
Here's some photos of the
event:

Port Town Publishing's Annual Author Booksigning July
27, 2002
Jean Hackensmith, the owner of
Port Town Publishing, held an annual signing for her authors at
the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds in Superior, Wisconsin, in July
2002. The event was a lot of fun for the authors who attended.
It gave us a chance to meet and enjoy each other's company, even
though we were rained out in the afternoon. We all rushed to a nearby
restaurant, still soaking wet, but hungry and happy.

The rain-drenched
trio: Jean Hackensmith, Owner Port Town Publishing

romances), yours truly and Inna Larsen,
