SADI'S PAGEHi! My name is Sadi... My full name is 'La Petite Golden Sadi Belle', but all my friends call me Sadi or Sadi Belle. I was born in Catlettsburg, KY on December 26th 1996, and I adopted my humans in February of 1997 when I was just several weeks old. I was the 'runt' of my litter, but my humans say I had the biggest heart of all my brothers and sisters. I moved with my humans to Huntington, WV and that is where we all live now. If you've seen many pictures of other Yorkies, you'll see that most of us have long flowing hair that swishes on the ground as we walk - but I like to keep my hair shorter most of the time. It doesn't get all tangled up, and it is a lot cooler in the summer.
My humans buy me toys and treats all the time. I even get to unwrap my own presents at Christmas and my Birthday and any other special occasions. I love doing this! But if I act nonchalant while getting into my presents, I found out they'll take a Pupperoni Stick and rub it on my gifts before they wrap them. This is so cool how I trained them so easily. They really learn fast! Christmas '98. I was so happy and living the good life with my humans when they did something that turned my whole world upside down!! They got me a SISTER!! This sister is another Yorkie named Dixie, but we all think she is possessed or something. My dad even started calling her DeeDee, which stands for Devil Dog.
I have always been so quiet (unless a foreign animal or a strange human comes within 100 feet of our house!) and timid and bashful my whole life. I was even scared of my food dish and water dish when I was a puppy. When a new human comes to visit our house, I take my time in coming over and sniffing them out before I allow them to pet me or pick me up. When a new dog comes to visit, or I am taken to visit one, I usually perch on the highest human shoulder I can find or the back of the highest chair or couch I can get onto. If I get stuck and can't get away, I just turn and lie down and face the opposite direction. I figure if I can't see them, then they can't see me - right? When I am outside I will chase the occasional cat or dog or bird that wanders too close (until they turn around towards me!), but I usually just walk around the perimeter of our yard while my dad sits on the tailgate of his truck. He usually lets me walk around as long as I want before he tells me to be a "Good Girl", unless I have been chasing stuff, or he's missing too many laps of a Nascar race. (This look on my face is how I feel about Dixie.) On 10/17/99 my humans noticed I was walking a little funny. I would be going along just fine, and then I would pull up my right rear leg and hop along on the other three. Then in a couple of minutes, I would be walking and running along on all four legs as if nothing had happened. This back-and-forth, four-to-three-to-four-leg style of walking and/or running kept happening all evening. Of course, they were very concerned and took me to see my Vet the very next day. My Vet is Dr. A, and he is a very nice man. He has been my Vet ever since I was a little tiny puppy, and I trust him completely when I am in his hands. He looked at me, and watched me walk, and knew what was wrong right away. My kneecap was popping in and out of it's socket! This was not painful to me, and he knew that, but he also knew that it would only get worse if left untreated. He could take my kneecap and pop it in and out himself, and he made my adult female human feel this as it happened. (She is very squeamish about these sort of things, but she felt anyway - out of concern for me.) Dr. A said he could not do the kind of surgery that was needed to fix my leg, but he could recommend a doctor who could. His name was Dr. H, and his office is in Columbus OH, about a three hour drive from where we live. A call was made to Dr. H's office that same day, and an appointment was made for me the following Monday. Of course I did not know all of this as it was happening, but I sure found out soon enough. To make a short story long, My two adult humans and I took off for Columbus and had the surgery done on 10/25/99. It turns out my leg was not growing straight like it should be, and the way it was turning in towards my body was putting too much pressure on my knee joint. Dr H would have to go in and move my knee around a little to make me better. Dr H also made my adult female human feel my knee pop in and out, much to her dismay. After about four hours (a Heck of a long time to a Yorkie!!), I was back in the car with my humans, and we were heading home. I haven't told you about the huge bandage Dr. H put on me, have I? I don't think I can describe how big and awkward it is to me, so let me just show you a couple of pictures.
This bandage is really slowing me down and cutting in on my cat chasing time outside, but it has gotten me hundreds of sympathy points. Dr H said it would be okay for me to walk around with this bandage right away, but to not let me do any jumping on/off things and to not let me climb up or down any stairs. This means I have been carried practically everywhere over the last week. I didn't mind at first, because I wasn't sure what this thing was on my leg, and I always love getting more attention than Dixie, but now I'm just ready to get back to normal. I'll let you know more about my recovery as time goes on. OH!! I almost forgot!! When we first got to Dr H's office, my humans let me walk around outside for a few minutes before we went inside (it was a long car ride, after all...), and it was then I saw the biggest cat I have ever seen! It was huge! Across the street some humans had it on a leash, and my humans called it a Tiger. 1.) I've never seen a cat that big! 2.) I've never seen a cat on a leash! 3.) I did not like the way it was looking at me and licking it's lips. I think even the surgery was better than what the Tiger would have done for me... Do you like my page? Send me some e-mail and tell me what you think. I've chased home
