Easter Egg Dress-Ups by Priscilla Hewitt ©2000 These egg cups are self-standing and can support an egg without reinforcement. Materials Small amount of sport weight yarn Crochet hook size D, or size needed for gauge
Gauge: Rounds 1-2 = 1 3/4
Basic Egg Cup (shown in aqua)
Ch 4; join with a sl st to form ring
Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 11 more dc in the ring; jin with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (12 dc)
Round 2: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same st; work 2 dc in each remaining dc around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (24 dc) Check gauge.
Round 3: Ch 1, sl st around the post of the first dc (inserting hook from back to front to back around post), ch 3 to count as the first bpdc, bpdc around the post of each remaining dc around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (24 bpdc)
Rounds 4-6: Ch 1, sl st around the post of the first st (inserting hook from front to back to front around post), ch 3 to count as the first fpdc, fpdc around the post of each remaining st around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (24 fpdc)
Round 7: Ch 1, insert hook in same st AND through both loops of the top of the first fpdc on row 5 (behind round 6), complete sc; (ch 1, insert hook in next st AND through both loops of the top of the next fpdc on row 5, complete sc) in each remaining st around; join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Bottom rim: Holding basket upside down, join yarn with a sl st through both loops of the top of any dc on round 2 (these are the loops that were left unworked when you worked the bpdcs for round 3), ch 1, (sl st in the next dc, ch 1) around; join with a sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Basket Variation (shown in pink)
Work as for egg cup through round 7. Do not fasten off at the end of round 7.
Basket handle: Ch 20, skip next 10 sc on round 7, sl st in each of the next 2 sc; turn; skip first 2 sl sts, sc in each of the next 20 chs, sl st in the last sc on round 7.
Basket brim: Continuing around top of basket (working from the wrong side), ch 2 to count as the first hdc, hdc in each sc and in each ch 1 sp around the top of the basket, skipping the stitches where the handle is attached; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (42 hdc) Next round: Ch 1, (sl st in the next hdc, ch 1) around; join with a sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Bunny Egg Cozy (shown in white with blue egg cup)
Ch 4; join with a sl st to form ring
Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 9 more dc in the ring; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (10 dc)
Round 2: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same st; work 2 dc in each dc around; join with a sl st to the top of he beginning ch 3. (20 dc)
Round 3: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, 2 dc in the next dc, (dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next dc) 9 times; join with a s st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (30 dc)
Rounds 4-5: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in each remaining dc around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (30 dc)
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in the same st and in each dc around. (30 sc) Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Ears Join yarn with a sl st around the post of any dc on round 1, *ch 10, sc in the 2nd ch from hook, hdc in the next ch, dc in each of the next 6 chs, hdc in the next ch, sl st around the same dc post on round 1. Fasten off.* Skip next 4 dc on round 1; attach yarn with a sl st around the post of the next dc. Repeat from * to * for the second ear. Weave in ends.
