Granny’s Heart Filet Motif

Materials
For coaster: Size 10 crochet cotton thread and a size 8 hook
For dishcloth: Worsted weight cotton yarn and size F hook
Finished size
Coaster: About 4” across
Dishcloth: About 10 1/2” across
Variation: You can make “solid” hearts by eliminating the ch 1’s in rounds
2-8, and working dc’s without skipping any stitches.
Ch 8, join with a sl st to form ring
Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 2 more dc in the ring (ch 4, 3
dc in the ring) 3 times; ch 2, join with a hdc to the top of the beginning ch
3 to form the last ch 4 space.
Round 2: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same ch 4 sp (around the
joining hdc), *dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in the next dc, (2 dc,
ch 4, 2 dc) all in the next ch 4 space*. Repeat from * to * 2 times, dc in the
next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next ch 4 sp; ch 2,
join with a hdc to the top of the beginning ch 3 to form the last ch 4 space.
Round 3: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same ch 4 sp (around the
joining hdc), *dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in the next dc, ch 1,
skip next ch 1, dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in the next dc (2 dc,
ch 4, 2 dc) all in the next ch 4 space*. Repeat from * to * 2 times, dc in the
next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next ch 1, dc in the
next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next ch 4 sp; ch 2,
join with a hdc to the top of the beginning ch 3 to form the last ch 4 space.

next dc, (ch 1, skip next ch 1, dc in the next dc) 4 times, dc in each of the
next 2 dc, (ch 2, dc, ch 4, dc, ch 2) all in the next ch 4 space, *dc in each

Round 11: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the next ch 2 sp. Dc all
around, working 1 dc in each dc, 1 dc in each ch 2 sp, and 5 dc in each ch 4
sp; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off. Weave in
ends.
