Thread Motif (Sachet or Coaster)

Materials:

Crochet cotton size 10

Steel crochet hook size 7

(For sachet - 15” of 1/4” ribbon; 2 (6”) squares of tulle; potpourri; yarn

needle)

Gauge: after round 3 piece should measure about 2 1/4” across

Finished size: coaster-4”; sachet-4 3/4”

To work joined trc - (yo twice, insert hook in next ch 5 loop and pull up a

loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on the hook twice) 2 times; yo and pull

through all 3 loops on hook

(Make 2 for sachet)

Beginning at the center of the motif ch 6, join with a sl st to form ring

Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc; work 11 dc in the ring, join with a sl

st to the top of the beginning ch 3

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining; (ch 12, sl st in the 7th ch from

hook, ch 4, skip next dc, sc in the next dc) 5 times; ch 12, sl st in the 7th

ch from hook, trc in the first sc to join

Round 3: (Ch 3, sl st in next ch 4 loop, 11 dc in the next ch 7 loop, sl st in

next ch 4 loop) 6 times; join with a sl st to the top of the trc

Round 4: Sl st into first ch 3, ch 1, sc in same ch 3; *ch 5, skip next 4 dc,

dc in the next dc, (ch 3, dc) twice in the next dc, ch 3 dc in the next dc, ch

5, skip next 4 dc, sc in next ch 3* Repeat from * to * 4 times; ch 5, skip

next 4 dc, dc in the next dc, (ch 3, dc) twice in the next dc, ch 3 dc in the

next dc, ch 2, dc in the first sc to join

Round 5: Ch 3, trc in the next ch 5 loop; *(ch 3, sc in the next ch 3 loop)

twice; ch 5, sc in the same ch 3 loop as last sc; ch 3, sc in next ch 3 loop;

ch 3, work joined trc over next two ch 5 loops* Repeat from * to * 4 times;

(ch 3, sc in the next ch 3 loop) twice; ch 5, sc in the same ch 3 loop as last

sc; ch 3, sc in next ch 3 loop; ch 3, join with a sl st to the top of the first trc

Round 6: Sl st into first ch 3 space, ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 2

more dc in the same ch 3 space. Work 3 dc in each ch 3 space and 5 dc in

each ch 5 space around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.

(102 dc)

Round 7: (Beading round for sachet) ch 5 to count as first dc and ch 2;

(skip next dc, dc in the next dc, ch 2) 50 times; join with a sl st to the 3rd

ch of beginning ch 5

Round 8: Sl st into first ch 2 space; ch 1, sc in the same space; (ch 3, sc in

the next ch 2 space) 50 times; ch 3, join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off

for coaster.

Round 9: (Edging for sachet) sl st to the center of the first ch 3 loop; ch 6,

dc in the 3rd ch from hook, (dc in next ch 3 loop, ch 3, dc in the top of the

last dc) 50 times; join with a sl st to the 3rd ch of beginning ch 5. Fasten

off.

Finishing: Weave in ends. For coaster - lightly spray starch and iron.

For sachet - thread yarn needle with ribbon. Sandwich the two pieces of

tulle between the two crocheted pieces (wrong sides together.) Weave the

ribbon in and out of the beading round of both pieces, sewing through the

tulle. Leave a 2” opening at the end; stuff potpourri between the layers of

tulle; continue weaving opening closed. Tie ribbon in a bow and trim ends.

Trim tulle close to the ribbon.
