Materials: Crochet cotton thread size 10

10” of 7/8” satin ribbon

Steel crochet hook size 8

Size: About 7 1/2” by 2 1/2”

Ch 16

Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook and in each ch across - 14 dc counting first 3 ch as one dc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: Dc in the 2nd dc, ch 10, skip 10 dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the top of ch 3. Ch 3, turn.

Row 3: Dc in the 2nd dc, dc in the next10 ch, dc in the nex tdc, dc in the top of the ch 3. (14 dc) Ch 3, turn.

Rows 4 - 33: (Repeat rows 2 and 3) 15 times. At the end of row 33 do not ch 3 and do not turn. Work in rounds from now on.

Round 1: Working around the posts of the dc on the side of the bookmark **work 2 sc around each of the first 2 dc, *(sc, ch 6, sc) around the next dc, 2 sc around the next dc, 3 sc around the next dc, 2 sc around the next dc* Repeat from * to * 6 times; (sc, ch 6, sc) around the next dc, 2 sc around each of the last 2 dc; ch 14, skip 14 dc at the top of the bookmark.** Working down the other side, repeat from ** to ** once (skipping the 14 dc at the bottom of the bookmark instead of the top). Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining. ** *skip next 4 sc (5 trc, ch 3, sl st in top of last trc for picot, 5 trc) in the next ch 6 loop; skip 4 sc, sc in the next sc* Repeat from * to * 7 times; (8trc, ch 3, sl st in top of last trc for picot, 8 trc) all in the ch 14.** Repeat from ** to ** once; join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off.

Finishing: Weave in ends. Spray starch and iron bookmark. Weave ribbon through center “ladder” going under the 16 dc end, then over the next rung, etc. Trim ribbon and fold it under in the back of the bookmark - tack with fabric glue. Or let ribbon extend from either end.
