Crocheter's Take-Along Tool Kit

Materials

Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight acrylic yarn, crochet hook size F (3.75 mm) or the size needed to achieve gauge, two safety pins (one large, one small)

Gauge: Rows 1-2 = 7 3/4" x 3/4"

Inner Lining

Ch 30

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the top loop only of each remaining ch across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 2: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc) Check gauge.

Row 3: Sc in the front loop only of each of the first 3 sc, ch 23, skip the next 23 sc, sc in the front loop only of each of the last 3 sc; ch 1, turn. (6 sc and 23 ch)

Row 4: Sc in each of the first 3 sc, sc in each of the next 23 ch's, sc in each of the last 3 sc; ch 2, turn. (29 sc) (Pattern note: the ch sts at the ends of the rows do not count as the first st on the next row.)

Pattern note: Rows 5-8 form 2 pockets sized to hold 2 steel hooks

Row 5: Hdc in each of the first 14 sts, hdc in the back loop only of each of the last 15 sts; turn, hdc in each of the unworked loops on the last 15 hdc; ch 1, turn, sc through both thicknesses of each of the 15 hdc to close the pocket; ch 1, turn. (59 sts)

Row 6: Sc in each of the first 15 sc, dc in each of the last 14 hdc; ch 2, turn. (29 sts)

Rows 7-8: Repeat rows 5-6

Pattern note: Rows 9-14 form 3 pockets sized to hold 2 aluminum hooks and a pencil (or 3 aluminum hooks)

Row 9: Dc in each of the first 14 sts, dc in the back loop only of each of the last 15 sts; turn, dc in each of the unworked loops on the last 15 dc; ch 1, turn, sc through both thicknesses of each of the 15 dc to close the pocket; ch 1, turn. (59 sts)

Row 10: Sc in each of the first 15 sc, dc in each of the last 14 dc; ch 2, turn. (30 sts)

Rows 11-14: (Repeat rows 9-10) 2 times, working a "ch 1, turn" at the end of row 10 instead of a "ch 2, turn."

Row 15: Sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 16: Sc in the back loop only of each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc) Mark the unworked front loop of the last stitch with the large safety pin.

Rows 17-19: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 20: Sc in the back loop only of each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc) Mark the unworked front loop of the last stitch with the small safety pin.

Row 21: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 22: Sc in each sc across; ch 3, turn. (29 sc)

Pattern note: Rows 23-26 forms one pocket sized to hold a 6" ruler

Row 23: Trc in each of the first 14 sts, trc in the back loop only of each of the next 15 sts; turn, trc in each of the unworked loops on the last 15 trc; ch 3, turn. (44 trc)

Row 24: Trc in each of the 44 trc on row 23; ch 1, turn. (44 trc)

Row 26: Sc in each of the first 14 trc, sc through both thicknesses of the next 15 trc to close the pocket; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Rows 61-63: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 64: Insert hook in the first sc on row 63 and into the first unworked loop on row 16 (marked with the large safety pin); complete a sc, (insert hook in the next sc on row 63 and into the next unworked loop on row 16; complete a sc) 28 times; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Rows 65- 84: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 85: Insert hook into the first unworked loop on row 3 and into the first sc on row 84; complete a sc, (insert hook into the next unworked loop on row 3 and into the next sc on row 84; complete a sc) 2 times, sc in each of the next 23 sc on row 84, (insert hook into the next unworked loop on row 3 and into the next sc on row 84; complete a sc) 3 times; ch 1, turn. Row 86: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (29 sc)

Row 87: Insert hook in the first loop on the foundation ch of row 1 and into the first sc on row 86; complete sc, (insert hook in next loop on the foundation ch of row 1 and into the next sc on row 86; complete sc) 28 times; turn. (29 sc)

Edging: Sl st in each of the 29 sc on row 87, working along the bottom of the case through the outer case and into the inner lining to close the bottom, work 50 sc in the ends of each row of the outer case across, sl st in each of the unworked loops on row 37, working along the top of the case through the outer case and into the inner lining to close the top, work 50 sc in the ends of each row of the outer case across; join with a sl st in the first sl st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Finishing 0ptions

1. Close the case and measure around the three open sides to determine the length of zipper needed. Sew zipper around the three open sides.

2. Sew velcro around the open sides of the case.

3. Crochet a flap closing with buttonhole as done for the Paperback Totes. Sew a button to the case and add the handles if desired.

4. Crochet a cord and sew to each side to tie closed.

5. Sew a ribbon to each side to tie closed.

6. Sew a heavy snap to the inside edge to close.
