Museum Collection

The Museum Collection of the Center includes a montage of items representing the area's past. Our latest acquisition (on loan) is the original grist stones from the Ben Gervais Grist Mill. These stones were rescued from the bottom of Gervais Creek where they had been discarded. On permanent display are various items including: a model old village, Dr. Ostegrens safe, local business section, a 1930's kitchen including a cream separator, and artifacts from St. Johns two earlier church buildings. Some displays change seasonally, such as: doll collection, tools, woodworking, farms, schools, Fire Department, bottles dug up in Little Canada, and an Indian display.

Reference Library

The Reference Collection of the Center is modest. Emphasis is on local materials but does include some published Quebec parish registers, as well as several major French-Canadian published works including Jette and the 2002 PRDH. Several maps of Little Canada at different time periods, some showing land ownership, adorn the walls. The original Little Canada Township records dating from 1858 and an early book of McLean Township records are in the collection. A large section is devoted to family notebooks made up of notes, clippings and pictures relating to many of Little Canada's earliest families (an everyname index of these notebooks is in progress).
