Visual Arts at Millbrook High School
Welcome to my online art classroom!  I'm Elizabeth Stevenson and I'm one of theVisual Arts teachers at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.  I've created this site for my students, their parents, and other art teachers.  Below are the descriptions for the courses I teach.  If you have any questions you can email me at: estevenson@wcpss.net

Here are some students working at this year's Street Painting Festival which took place in downtown Raleigh on September 15 &16, 2006.
Advanced Placement
The Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art program makes it possible for highly motivated high school students to do college-level work.  Students complete teacher directed assignments while also developing an individualized “concentration” that is an in-depth, personal commitment to a particular artistic concern.  A strong understanding of the elements and principles of design is expected before enrolling in the class.  In addition to striving to produce first-year, college-level work, the typical AP Studio Art student has the ability to keep up with a rigorous workload (both in class and at home) and utilize his or her higher-level critical thinking skills.  Writing about artwork is a major component of the course.  Each student is expected to submit a portfolio of work (either for the exam or for the instructor) for evaluation at the end of the school year.  Please view the College Board Studio Art website http://apcentral.collegeboard.com for more information about AP Art program requirements.
Prerequisite: Art 1, Art 2, Art 3/3H, and teacher recommendation
Visual Arts 3/3 Honors
These courses emphasizes the concepts that will facilitate the student’s ability to use design elements while creating visual expressions.  Students will continue to work with a variety of media, tools and processes while investigating art ideas.  Students will become comfortable giving critiques of their own work and that of other artists.  Each student will maintain a sketchbook and there will be assignments needing time at home to complete.  Students who have demonstrated an advanced level of skill are eligible for the Honors level.
