THE CARDS WERE OFFERED TO THE PUBLIC FOR FREE BY VISITING "STERLING CARDS" BOOTH AS A PROMOTION MEANS TO DETERMINE IF THE PUBLIC HAD AN INTEREST IN BUYING "COUNTRY MUSIC CARDS."
MEMBERS OF "STERLING CARDS'" WOULD OFFER ONE FREE CARD FOR EACH VISIT TO "STERLING CARDS" BOOTH AT THE SHOW
EACH DAY, ONE NEW CARD WAS TO BE OFFERED FOR EACH ARTIST. THE RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMING!!!

THE VISITORS AT THE SHOW WERE STANDING IN LINES TRYING TO GET THE CARDS. THE CARDS WERE SO POPULAR, "STERLING CARDS" HAD TO PASS OUT SOME OF THE ARTIST ON THE FIRST DAY THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO BE FEATURED ON THE SECOND, THIRD AND FORTH DAY

THE DEMAND WAS SO OVERWHELMING, MANY OF THE VISITORS THAT HAD OBTAINED THE CARDS WERE SELLING THEM TO OTHER CUSTOMERS THAT DIDN'T WANT TO WAIT IN THE LONG LINES OR WAIT THE FOUR DAYS TO GET A COMPETE SET. ON DAY TWO, SEVERAL OF "THE JUDDS" CARDS WERE RELEASED WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A RIOT

THE DEMAND WAS SO HIGH THAT SECURITY HAD TO CLOSE DOWN THE BOOTH. AT THE END OF THE DAY, "THE JUDDS" MANAGEMENT HAD CONTACTED "STERLING CARDS" AND ORDERED THAT THE CARDS BE DESTROYED AS "THE JUDDS" DID NOT WANT THEIR IMAGES BEING SOLD AS THIS WAS TO BE A FREE PROMOTION PROTOTYPE GIVEAWAY. THE CARDS WERE DESTROYED ALL EXCEPT A FEW THAT WERE PASSED OUT IN THOSE FEW HOURS BY THE MEMBERS OF "STERLING CARDS" AND THE MANAGEMENT TEAM OF "THE JUDDS"

The History after the Promo Release
The Country Music Cards promos cards became such a hit with collector's ,
that Nashville had to take notice.

Soon after the release of the promo cards at the Nashville show in 1990, "Sterling Cards" signed an agreement with the Country Music Association (CMA) to release a 100 card set collection which would include the "CMA" logo on each card.
The "CMA" had never lent their logo to anyone in their 100 year history!!

The country music card set titled , "Country Gold" trading cards, included every artist that were popular during the time period.

The first release of the collection included
"The Judds",

"Toby Keith" , "Merle Haggard", "Tanya Tucker",
Martina McBride","Marty Stuart","Kathy Mattea",
"Willie Nelson","Randy Travis","Clint Black","Lorrie Morgan" ,
Tammy Wynette","Hoyt Axton", "Brooks and Dunn",
and many more!
Also included in the first release were Country Artist from the past ,
"Michael Martin Murphy","Rosie Flores", "George Jones" , "Bill Monroe",
and yes, "Wayne Newton".
There were the few country artist that would not sign for various reasons and were skeptical of the project
One such as artist was "Garth Brooks.
Garth's management team felt that he was to big of a star at the time to be included in the set.

Because of the popularity of the "CMA" cards and a meeting with 'Dick Clark',
Dick Clark soon released his own version of the cards through the "ACM" , (Academy of Country Music).
For a complete list of all country music card that made it to press and those that did not
, please e-mail me. The complete "Country Gold""collection was released in 1991.

The unopened cases of cards were packed with ten boxes per case.
Each box included 36 packs of cards.
Each pack of cards contained 6 individual artist cards.
To help start interest in the cards,
a chase card was included in many packages which were signed autographs from the artist included in the set.
This was the first time a company had put authentic autographs into thier packaging and opened up the industry for what soon became the standard,
having items signed by sports figures, pieces of the game, pieces of the players uniforms and parts of their bats and wood floors from basketball.

Sterling also introduced back into the industry, pop-up display boxes that contained the country music cards.
The first pop-up boxes featured such artist as Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, Clint Black , Randy Travis and Travis Tritt.
