Vallejo Model Railroad Club

The Vallejo Model Railroad Club has to move!!!

The Solano County Fairground is undergoing some changes. Their plans do not include a place for us.

The Vallejo Model Railroad Club was located in the Civic Building at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, California (Vallejo is at the northeast end of San Francisco Bay). The area that we leased from the fairgrounds was about 50 X 60 feet (3100 sq ft). We had an HO scale layout featuring our freelanced "Vallejo & Solano Western RR", as well a a modular HO scale railroad that we took to various locations to promote our hobby.

Our Club was formed in November, 1976. By the time the County Fair started in July, 1977, we had an HO scale layout consisting of a double tracked loop about 10 X 40 feet with a little scenery.

We were faced with the problem of many clubs. The Fairboard is currently (Jan, 2005) in the process of "redefining" what the Solano County Fair should be. We are not included in their plans for the new fair.

We have located a new home across the Carquinez Bridge in Crockett, CA, less than 10 miles south on Interstate 80, of our old location. The historic building that we have moved into is the old "Independent Order of Odd Fellows" (IOOF) Lodge building at 641 Loring St. We are on the second floor (the second floor address is actually 645 Loring St). We meet every Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM until about 10:00 PM. Our new phone number is (510) 787-6703. If you call when we are not there, an answering machine will take your message.

The layout will be in the main lodge room which is an unobstructed 36 X 60 feet, which will give us more actual room for our new layout than we had in the Civic Building. We have the whole second floor, which has several more rooms that we can use for workspace and storage space. As of July 1,2005, we have completed the move from Vallejo to Crockett.

The new name for our relocated club is "The Carquinez Model Railroad Society". We are developing a new Website which is at www.CarquinezMRS.org. At this time, the Website is viewable, but is still under development.

In 2005 our presence at the Solano Co. Fair was limited to our modular layout that was set up in McCormick Hall. It is doubtful that we will take part in the Solano County Fair in future years, but we intend to get involved with community functions in Crockett.

We are currently in the process of developing a new track plan. We have saved most of the structures and scenery from the old layout for possible reuse in Crockett.

If anyone is interested in getting in on the ground floor of a new model railroad, we would sure like to have you as a new member. We are always looking for new modelers that would like to learn the model railroading hobby, as well as those that are experienced in model railroading.

Silver Jubilee

In 2001 we celebrated our 25th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion we have a 50 foot, steel box car from Accurail. Each car is uniquely numbered and includes our "Silver Jubilee" herald in yellow on green. The cars sell for $15.00 each as a kit, or $20.00 assembled, plus $4.00 shipping and handling. Contact us at our e-mail address (lambertrp61@comcast.net) or by phone for purchasing instructions.
