ThesisFont
The following is a summary of ThesisFont 's characters, their use and
positioning within text strings in FINALE. Click on any (low-resolution)

ThesisiFont includes the following specialized character sets:
Dynamics
Careful examination of the Sonata
and Petrucci fonts reveals that characters common to both fonts have subtly
differing proportions. This is unfortunate, inasmuch as Petrucci contains
several dynamic symbols which Sonata
lacks. Additionally, both fonts lack parenthetic dynamic symbols, which
are often required in engraving music. ThesisFont contains Sonata-quality
equivalents of Petrucci 's extra characters, as well as parenthetic dynamics,
and a few symbols which are not found in either font. These characters
are scaled for use at 24pt., the default size for FINALE's dynamic symbols.
ThesisFont's characters have their basepoints (the place where each
character's "handle" appears on screen) positioned so that their
offsets will be comparable to Sonata
and Petrucci StaffExpressions.
Stimmen
The traditional notations are included in ThesisFont to aid in projects
which require these characters. Their recommended size is 18pt. See also
the "Indicators of Levels of Prominence"
feature of TempiFont for other hierarchical
indicators.
Microtonal Accidentals
Symbols of various designs are included. Recommended size is 24pt.
Pedal Indications for Organ
The traditional symbols for heel and toe are included. Recommended size
is 24pt.
Brackets
Characters indicating that a chord or interval should be attacked simultaneously
(and therefore not arpeggiated) are provided for intervals ranging from
the second to the twelfth. 24 point size is recommended.
Miscellaneous Articulations and Indications
Several useful articulations are included in ThesisFont, among them
Bartók pizzicati, accents, arrows and martellato markings. 24 point
size is recommended. The martellato markings may be used at a larger (42pt.)
size for use as an arrowhead -- useful in indicating the direction of arpeggios
and other "rolls". Parentheses may be used in conjunction with
many of the following articulations:
Harp Pedalings and Notations
A final feature of ThesisFont is its ability to set harp pedalings,
a rare but time-consuming task when required.
A ThesisFont harp pedaling consists of two elements
The axis upon which the pedal markings are drawn
The pedal markings themselves.
The axis is typed first, followed by the pedalings. A space is used
to straddle the vertical axis. 24 point size is recommended. Pedals which
have been moved from their previous positions may be circled by inserting
the appropriate character before typing the pedal indication (see below).
Other notations are also provided. See Stone
(pp. 226-56) for full explanations and examples of these symbols.
