Our Heritage

MARCH 1896 - The Phoebus Sunday School was organized at the Mason's & Odd Fellow's Hall, Phoebus, Virginia.

1905 - The original church building was built on Chesapeake Avenue (now Ft. George Street). The congregation was a missionary church of First Presbyterian Church, Hampton, Virginia.

1915 - According to Session Minutes, the church was formally organized as a separate congregation.

MAY 6, 1928 - A Congregational meeting was called; the name of the church was changed to "LaCrosse Memorial Presbyterian Church" in memory of 32 years of self-sacrificing service of Elder J.F. LaCrosse.

Current LaCrosse Memorial

JUNE 24, 1962 - A Congregational Meeting was called on this date and it was voted unanimously to purchace the "Dixie Diggs" property located in the 1500 block of North Mallory Street for the purpose of relocating LaCrosse.

OCTOBER 15, 1967 - Cornerstone laid in the new LaCrosse Church.

APRIL 4, 1968 - Easter Sunday, first services were held in the new sanctuary.

Our Heritage has been enriched by God's love and our future will be guided by God's love.
