COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
FUNDAMENTALS OF BOOKKEEPING

Sharpen your pencil for this intensive 112-hour bookkeeping course. You will learn key accounting principles that will enable you to set up a company’s books, post transactions, track payables and receivables, make adjusting entries, and prepare financial statements. We will also discuss requirements for collecting and filing sales tax in New York State, payroll processing, making payroll tax payments, and preparing Federal and New York State payroll tax returns. We will then tie all of these concepts together using QuickBooks - the most popular bookkeeping program in use by businesses today. Every business needs to track its income and expenses, so there are positions available in a wide range of business settings.  Work as a payroll clerk, accounts receivable/payable clerk, or as a general bookkeeper. This would be an excellent course for someone aspiring to be an office manager because they typically need to know how to perform bookkeeping procedures.
Increase your hiring potential by taking the National Registered Bookkeeper Exam upon graduation.
Prerequisites: high school diploma or GED, competency with Excel, computer literacy

What if I don’t need a whole program?

That’s fine. We offer a large variety of individual classes for those that don’t need to take a whole program. Maybe you’re a bookkeeper that needs to learn QuickBooks in order to keep up with the times. Or perhaps you are proficient in Word and Excel but there is a greater demand for Access and PowerPoint in the job market. We can accommodate most requests for individual classes.
