About the author
Luanne Pfeifer is an award winning writer whose many books, newspaper articles, and magazine features have been translated into languages from braille to Russian. She lives and writes in two places: California and Idaho. She has twice received the North American Snowsports' Harold Hirsch Ski Journalism award. Other awards received are: Far West Ski Assoc. W.B. Berry writing award (three time winner) and the North American Travel Journalists' first place award for magazine sports writing. She was a recipient of the National Endowment of the Humanities journalism fellowship at Tufts University in the Edward R. Murrow Center of the University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Her latest book, GRETCHEN'S GOLD, received the International Skiing History book award in 1997.

The book is: GRETCHEN'S GOLD , the story of America's first gold medalist in Olympic skiing. It has a subtitle of: carrying the torch beyond the Olympic Village. The subtitle is derived from things Gretchen Fraser did after she won the Olympics earning her a gold medal in life. At the World Ski History Congress held two weeks prior to the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, she presented a paper on "America's First Gold Medal in Olympic Skiing." The speakers were from 11 countries giving 41 papers on their country's ski history. Luanne's talk and slide presentation was one of two opening papers presented at the first-ever Ski History Congress held in the U.S. It was presented in Park City, Utah Jan 20, 2002.
