Welcome!

Come on in and have a good look around.

This page will be updated from time to time, so please come on back.

Updated 28 Feb. 1999

updates will appear in this color.

There are many different ways to spell this surname, so let me see if you can follow this.
L + ( a, e, ei, ey, i, ie, y ) + (b, p ) + ol + ( d, dt, t).

THE ITEMS OF INFORMATION CONTAIN DIFFERENCES IN SPELLING THE SURNAME. I HAVE THE REFERENCE TO BACK IT ALL UP. I ALSO HAVE COPIES OF ALL THE N.Y. CENSUS RECORDS OF ALL THE SPELLINGS FROM 1790-1860. I HAVE SOME FAMILY LINES TO PRESENT. ITS LIKE OUR OWN ONE STOP SHOP FAMILY SURNAME HOMEPAGE CONNECTION. I HAVE COPIED ALL VERBATIM AND USE THE SPELLING THAT THE REFERENCE USED OR WHAT WAS ON THE TOMBSTONES OR MILITARY RECORD.

TOP OF THE ORDER,
FIND THE PARENTS OF:

Please note that these people may not be related by the same parents. Due to the information on their supposed parents, Jacob and Lydia Lybolt, who were too young to have had the ones listed as theirs. Info on a Jacob / Lydia is listed in a lower paragraph.

>ELIZAb. 1792

>JACOB LIEBOLT d. 2 June 1865, age 71yr. 8mo. 20da. (so birth is 13 Sept. 1794)
m. Azubah EVELETH 1828, d 6-17-1876, age 69yr. 1mo. 15da., (so birth is 2 May 1807) both buried at Beaver Dams Cemt., NY.
THIS IS MY LINE!!

>ALMIRA b.1794 ( unsure )

>ABRAHAM M. LYBOLT 1796-1868 Beaver Dams Cemt., NY. m. Cynthia Ann WINTON or Cynthia Anna HURD (1796-1883)

>CATHERINE b. 1802 Lansing, NY d. 1872
m. John SUTTON 1826

>SALLY b. 1804
m. Charles PARKER 1825

>HENRY PRATT LIBOLT b. 9 Jan 1807 Orange Co. NY d. 7 Oct 1880

(She does a newsletter)

So far the spellings I link to are LYBOLT, LIBOLT and LIEBOLT. So on to the LEYBOLDT connection. Here is why I am heading in that direction. The, or at least a, story is that of a German army officer who came over to the new world with a wife and children. The wife and children die on the ship or at sea. So I traced back my LYBOLT line and got back to a Jacob LYBOLT [ who is buried under the name LIEBOLT] who is/was married to an Azubah EVELETH [ said to be Native American Indian ]. In a Libolt Family Album (I saw at a LIBOLT family reunion in S.D.) it was written that the parents of this Jacob is a Jacob / Lydia LIBOLT, both said to be buried at Dobbin Cemetery, Ontario Co., NY.[ just north of Geneva ]. So I searched for the stone inscriptions / church records of Jacob / Lydia to confirm who they are. I came up with this;.

Jacob LYBOLT d. March 15, 1865 age 84 [1865 minus 84 years = b. 1781]
Lydia LYBOLT d. Dec. 5, 1849 age 58. [1849 minus 58 years = b. 1791]

Book 974.734/S2 K2w;
Reform Dutch Church, Shawangunk, Ulster Co., N.Y.
Married 20 Jan. 1814
Jacob Lybolt & Ledia Jackson

So it turns out that those people buried in Dobbin Cemetery do exits but COULD NOT be the parents of the children at the top of the page due to the birth dates of the children (the last being born 1807) and that an 11year old boy a 1 year old baby girl don’t start families with each other! No other Lybolt's of any spelling were listed in Dobbin Cemetery that I could find.
Anyway, then I researched ship logs, I only found one Jacob LIEBOLT, formerly listed LEYBOLDT when he boarded the ship. Now on this ship there are women and children, but no record of their names or who they are traveling with. The ship arrives at the port in PA. on 22 Oct 1754 with dead, sick and loss of cargo (must have been hell at sea). Now this Jacob may be the founding father to these children but I am missing at least one if not 2 or 3 generations due to his age and the birth years of the above kids. I have other Jacob L-- bolt.'s of that time and have yet to connect them, even with the countless hours I have put in looking at property records, wills, probate records, church records, civil war pension records etc. So if you have any info PLEASE help the effort.

County History Books are a great source of information. Here are a few family accounts that I have found. Please go to County History Pages for the full stories. This is part 2 of the Home Page.

THE LIBOLTS

A POEM

T is for This - a rhyme and a verse
Written by me, for better or worse
For Preston and Peggy, Francis and Kay
Four special people we honor today.

H is for Hospitality - a welcome for all
For meetings picnics, Bible study more
Their houses are lovely, the grounds kept just so
Their lakes stocked with fish, and then we all know
There are frogs in the pond, a saw in the mill
And the deer come to graze on the top of the hill.

E is for Everything they know how to do
If you need some advice, they can take care of that too
Whether fixing a motor, or quilting a pillow,
Shingling a roof or planting a willow
Whether baking a cake or wanting to plow
One of them surely can tell you just how.

L is for Love of their fellow man
Helping and giving as much as they can
Veggies from the garden, work in the church
For more caring people, there's no need to search.

I is for Idle, a word they don't know
They always are busy - and on the go
There is much to be done at home and away
They waste not a minute, make use of each day.

B is for Blessings we wish by the score
May good health happiness abide with these four
As they have helped others, may their love be returned
And their wishes fulfilled - they've surely been earned.

O is for Onward, the direction to go
For many more years, be it quickly or slow
They've done right in the lives they have led
One can not measure the joy they have spread.

L is for Loyalty to their church and their friends
Their family and neighbors, right to the end,
Without them around how would things ever get done?

T is for Trucks, Tractors and tools
When it comes to these things, the men are no fools
The coffee flows freely from the thermos to the cup
Those parking lot meetings warm everyone up.
As for the Ladies, Kay loves to sew
And if there is a garage sale, she's ready to go
She cooks and she cans, she freezes and bakes
The best apple pies and the most delicious of cakes.
Peggy goes searching, metal detector in tow
How many treasures she's found, we never will know,
She also likes fishing with bait on her line
Trout, pickerel, perch - any one is just fine.

S is for Sincerity with which this was written
When it comes to the Libolt’s, with love we are smitten
Two good Christian families we're privileged to know
May our caring for them continue to grow
There really is no way we can thank them enough
To follow their footsteps would really be tough
But we truly do hope at the end of this day
They'll know that we care, each in his own way.

MAY ALL LYBOLT / LIBOLT's BE GUIDED BY THIS FOR THEIR OWN WAY IN LIFE, TO BE SPOKEN OF WITH SUCH GRATEFULNESS.
