Basic Facts
Hi, I am Maurice. I am a graduate of Western Carolina University and have a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education-General(K-12) as well as my NC and SC Licensure. Recently, I finished work towards a Master of Music in Voice Performance from Converse College. I am an active member of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, the South Carolina Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, National Education Association, and the International Federation for Choral Music.
Currently, I am a high school choral director. In addition to my teaching responsibilities there, I am also a Voice Instructor for Converse College: The Alia Lawson Academy of the Arts and will be assuming the position of Voice Chair for 2008-2009. This makes me a busy man!
My other teaching experience includes work as a trumpet clinician and soloist, piano instructor, drum major clinician and adjudicator, marching band instructor, and as an associate instructor at University of South Carolina Upstate. I have experience performing roles with groups such as Converse Opera Theatre, Asheville Lyric Opera and the Spartanburg Repertory Company as well as doing concert work. I was a member of the Concert Studio at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria during the summer of 2005.
I have been a featured vocal soloist with Converse College Wind Ensemble as well as the Spartanburg Festival Chorus.
"Recognize that you have the courage within you to fulfill the purpose of your birth. Summon forth the power of your inner courage and live the life of your dreams."

My Hobbies & Interests
My hobbies include a bit of everything. I especially love the outdoors and the parkways in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee are probably my favorite places to be. So, things like hiking are at the top of my list. I miss my bike from my younger days. So, I would love to get into something involving that. A few other things I enjoy are writing music, tennis, jogging, running, reading, checking out bookstores, learning about successful high school band and choral programs, museums and writing poetry.
I am also an avid reader of vocal pedagogy having read about twice as many books as I have fingers in that area. My favorite book frighteningly enough is The Functional Unity of the Singing Voice by Barbara Doscher and that IS favorite out of any genre.

My Online Life
My online life mostly includes speaking with friends that I do not get to see very often, digging up some interesting facts, writing poetry and listening to great music. However, I am a busy person. I am not on here much and being away from it all while in Austria made me realize how much more productive I am without virtual reality.
