What Is Mark's Problem?
So, what the hell is wrong with Mark's heart? Contrary to popular belief, he does NOT
have the same heart problem as the Grinch. Mark has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
In English, that means his heart muscle is thickening and getting stiffer so it doesn't
pump blood well. Mark also has some electrical problems (in the heart, not the side
porchlight, though the landlord has been called). The problem is primarily on the right
side of the heart, which tends to be less common. Most people have left side
problems. Sometimes the heart problem can be stabilized using drugs. Other times,
the heart failure has gone beyond drug stabilization and a transplant is needed.
