Pearl
Pearl Pace started working for the Barnes family in 1968, right before their daughter was born.  Pearl helped raise the children and worked in the home for thirty years.
In recent years diabetes, among other things, has ravaged her body.  Doctors amputated both of her legs, removed her eye, and she is completely blind and bedridden.
Still an exuberant spirit and animated personality, Pearl’s very existence has remained a sort of umbilical cord for Danny and his sister – nourishing and enriching their lives.  Because no family story about the Barnes is complete without Pearl, this oil on canvass attempts to pay her loving homage.
