Three Years Gone
Massoud
Three years gone, and still we mourn
"When I die, lay my corpse to rest,
but do not be at all surprised
if His kiss on my tattered lips
brings me back to life." (Rumi)
"I have a yearning for my beautiful country, and I love its people because of their misery...I love my native village with some of my love for my country, and I love my country with part of my love for the earth, all of which is my country, and I love the earth will all myself because it is the haven of humanity, the manifest spirit of God...
Humanity is the spirit of the Supreme Being on earth, and that Supreme Being preaches love and goodwill.

You may deprive me of whatever I possess...You may do unto me whatever you wish...You may shed my blood and burn my body, but you cannot kill or hurt my spirit."  Kahlil Gibran

It's difficult to believe that three years have passed since Ahmed Shah Massoud lost his life in defense of Afghan freedom. It is difficult not to wonder how different thing in Afghanistan might be today if he was still there, still involved, still a powerful voice for Afghanistan's future. He is mourned and missed as much - perhaps more - today as he was on the day he sacrificed his life for his beloved country and people.
"The Tender Mouth"
Hafiz

"What will the burial of my body be?
The pouring of a sacred cup of wine
into the tender mouth of the earth,
and making my dear, sweet Lover laugh
one more time."
