BREWERS SOFTBALL TEAM
Although the attempt to get another Phils game together for the summer of 2008 has fallen thru, there will be some attempt either during the summer or fall to have some type of get-together, possibly for a summer cookout or a dinner in the fall, or both. Info will be forthcoming both at this site and in email if you have one on file with the team.
A full-scale Reunion Night was held on Friday night August 5th 2005, the exact 20th anniversary of the Brewers 1st DVFL championship victory. The reunion was held at the Phillies game that night againt, who else, the Brewers, at Citizen's Bank Park. As ususual, the Brew Crew won in a tight, low-scoring game.
Former players including Ed Markowski, Ken Grolsko, Tom Nejman, Matt Veasey, Joe Gessner, Charlie Penberth, Tom O'Connell, Tom Loiacono and Greg Nigro attended, along with a number of family members.
A number of the guys got together on Friday evening May 21st, 2005 at Celebre's Pizza in South Philly, then hit the Chickie's & Pete's across the parking lot. Great time had by all in attendance: Ken Grolsko, Matt Veasey, Greg Nigro, Tom Loiacono, Ed Markowski, Joe Gessner, Kevin Curran, Tom Nejman, George Rayzis, Charlie Penberth
On Sunday afternoon November 28th 2004, a few of the guys took part in a Bad Loads reunion at Coach's on Frankford Avenue in Mayfair. Enjoying the Eagles clinching their 4th straight NFC East crown, as well as the suds and the great company, were Frank Gleason, Mike Kneisc, Matt Veasey, Ed Markowski & Gene Jablonski. The Loads had many of our old, familiar rival faces on hand such as Dan McElhaugh, Joe Coyne, Bob Hoffmeister, Jay Staiber, Chuck Marcello, Dave Smith, and many others.
There was a Brewers reunion at Fathead's on Torresdale Avenue in the fall of 2000. That was followed up with yet another at Celebre's Pizza in South Philly on Friday night November 15th 2002. A number of former players participated in the two get-togethers.
Hopes remain for future reunions in either game or party form, or both. Check in at this space for more details as we move forward, and feel free to send any ideas thru email at any time as well.
