Azores Cowdog
The Azores Cowdog
My daughter with her first Azores,
learning from each other.
A pair of Azores Cowdogs belonging to John Oliveira, Canada,
penning up some cows.
The Azores Cowdog ( Cao de fila de Sao Miguel) is a stout cattle dog with the males around 75lb and the females about 60lb. They were bred tough to live outdoors , and protect their owners stock and posessions. They are quick learners and intelligent, as most herding breeds, but their mastiff heritage adds some power. They are natural heelers , but will work the head of aggressive cattle.
The Azores is loyal to his family, usually singles out one master, to make him a fine worker and companion.

They are a square headed dog, with strong jaws and teeth, dark brown eyes and a well developed musculature.
They have a rambling movement but can accelerate when needed.
Their coat is short and thick, with some feathering . Their colour is always brindle ,but ranges from pale fawn to reddish brown, and they may have white patches on chin, chest and feet.
The tail is docked at 2nd or 3rd bone, and the ears are cut round ( bear like ).

Hertz, at about 2months, and Leon, both belong to Andre Jorge
of Portugal, Andre is well known for his excellent dogs.
The FSM thrives on work, he is great as a sport or protection dog if given the right training and handling. Below are some trainers and dogs that work in this field
