The Real-Life Cast of
"Like An Egg"

August, 1993 - the first, last and only group
photo
of the real-life people who inspired the characters in Like an Egg.
Teresa
My actual, real-life, maternal grandmother. She lived with my family since I was
old enough to remember. She never owned a bar, but would have made a great barkeep.
The closest she came was marrying a guy who was a bootlegger. She loved reading the
strip but always chastised me for making her look too old. Teresa left us in October
1993, two weeks short of her 91st birthday. The spirit of this comic strip is dedicated
to her.
John
That's me, standing behind Teresa. More on me on the Author's
Bio page.
Dale
He had a beard when this photo was taken, but he looks more like his cartoon self
now. Dale is an accountant in Pittsburgh, and is actually much brighter than the
guy in the comic strip. Dale doesn't mind the portrayal. He is always willing to
take a pitch for the team. Dale is also an accomplished actor, a familiar face on
the Pittsburgh theatre scene.
Eloise and George
George works at a bank, just like in the strip. I've known him for most of my life.
He met Eloise in college and they've been married over 10 years. (I was even the
best man at their wedding.) Eloise worked as a dental hygienist until taking time
off to be home with their son. (Perhaps a character in the future??).
