George G. Hawkins owned a plantation in Jackson, MI, where the airport is now located. When he and his brothers were small they were assigned a colored boy to keep them out of trouble. One time George stuck the little boy's head between a cross pickett fence so that he could get away and get in trouble. He and his cousin hopped a train and rode it in to New Orleans.
Clerolae Tingle is the sister of Sequioa, who is a Cherokee indian. Sequioa invented the Cherokee Alphabet.
Great Grandfather Joseph Haines Clawson was captured by the Sue indians at the age of 17. He was held captive for two years, then made his escape. Latter, after he had married and had 6 sons, they opened the Cherokee strip, located in the state of Oklahoma. He also founded a newspaper, opened the first masonic lodge in Champaign, Illinois and was its first Master.
The mother of Sally Ainsworth is the sister of Jefferson David, whow as president of the south during the civil war. Davis owned a huge plantation in Mississippi. Sally married into the Davis family.
3 times great grandfather Yates came over from Ireland looking for prestige. He found out that the irish were thought low of in the states. He ran into the Ainsworth family who had an ugly duckling daughter who he later married.
Great Grandfather Don Dean Clawson founded the Hughes County Tribune in Holdonville, Oklahoma, in indian territory. The paper went under in (?) after being started in 1935. It was bought out by another paper in town and which is still being published.
Most Clawsons from this era are buried in the Koushatta Cemetery in Koushatta Louisiana.
