Deeper in the Program
Since the first time he awoke as a child in his wilderness home, Dave WhiteWolf Trezak has been actively working to save the woodlands and animals from encroachment by humans. Deforestation has nearly taken the life of Mother Earth. He discovered that it was difficult to get adults and elders to act to change the way we deal with our environment. After fighting long and hard to protect the Ocklawaha River in Florida (and winning), he decided that our children were the only ones who could save our planet. Many styles of teaching were suggested and reviewed to accomplish the task. Finally it was the storytelling, music, and songs from his Native American heritage that spoke to him. Their simple lessons and "do the right thing" messages seemed to stick with the children of all ages and races. Much more so than even modern methods!
The "Save The Land" program was then born from the wisdom of elders from the Lakota, Cherokee, Nez Perce, and the Cheyenne nations . The Lyrics say it all..."Come and Take my Hand and Save The Land“. Ofcourse there are other important topics explored in the programs. Stereotypes, languages, customs, history, dwellings, clothing and life ways of the plains Indians and many other groups.
Character building lessons about race, respect for elders and veterans...teachers too!
