Studio Awards
Hawks' Music Studio gives out awards to it's students based on their ability to play the music they are assigned, how well they do their written work and how well they can keep themselves organized. There are great kids in this studio and they deserve to be TOLD so. The adult students are working hard to be able to make a living and still find time to practice too.

THE PENNY JAR
For every completed assignment, whether it is written work or playing music, I put a penny in the penny jar so that the students can see the amount of work that is being done by all the students in the studio. During the first week of the following month, all the younger students get to guess how many pennies are in the jar. Whoever guesses closest to the actual amount gets to take all the pennies home. Around Christmas time. . . what with all the Christmas songs the students love to play. . . that gets to be a LOT of pennies!!
STUDIO POINTS
The basic requirements that have to be done when a student is studying music are not the most enjoyable parts of the practice time.  But they HAVE to be done or you will never be able to command the muscles that are needed to perform the music.

In order to provide a reward for working on the basic exercises (both written and played) that are required by the respective instruments and voice, Hawks' Music Studio issues Studio Points. The student earns the points by how well he or she performs the requirements of the exercise assigned the previous week and, whether it took the student two tries or just one. There are written assignments that will be awarded points values at times. Studio Points are also issued for attendance and even the older teenagers and the adults get them!

These points can be used, like money, to "buy" small gifts out of the studio gift basket. There are also more valuable items hanging on the "8 - 10 point rack".  Students
can save their points each month or they can choose to use them.  Whoever turns in the MOST points each month is the Studio Points Winner and gets to take something off the 8 - 10 pts rack for FREE. * This feature will be reinstated as soon as there are enough students earning points to make it feasible.

THE 100 POINTS GALLERY
There is a "100  Points Gallery" in the printed studio newsletter and online at "The Studio Door" where the STUDENT'S PHOTO will be featured if they have attained  100 points in their studio points account. They may "spend "as many of their points as they choose and not lose out on becoming a Gallery member because the 100 Points Gallery is based on how many points they have EARNED. * This feature will be reinstated as soon as time and money permit.

Watch for the "100pts Gallery" red letters next to each student's name on the student photo pages.

Students who reach the 500 points Gallery will  have their photos in a special 500 Points Gallery featured in the newsletter* and acknowledge by a "500 pts. Gallery" notice in blue by their student photos.

Those who earn more than 1000 pts. will have another spot in the newsletter under a special banner and a "1000pts" icon by their name.
The Studio Points Board   (will be on display week of 2/1/06)
By checking out the Points Board in the studio the students can see how many points they have earned during the year.   Every student who spends points to purchase gift items gets their name  in "The Studio Door"*. They worked hard to earn those points and they should be acknowledged.
        * The Studio Door is out of print for the moment. I hope to start printing again before summer '06. This is mainly due to costs and somewhat due to time constraints.
COMPOSITION AWARDS
Those students who compose music as part of their lesson work and complete the assignments as designated by the teacher, have their compositions and their profile displayed on their own web page.  They are members of the "cool cat club" and next to their photo on the student pages is a Chesire cat to signify this. Their photo is a link to their page where a written copy of their music is displayed. There is also a feathered button on the "home" page of this site with their name on it which will also take you to their page.  In the future I also hope to have an audio version of their music available.
*The features that are highlighted in yellow and are pending reinstatement are not far from being activated. The studio has grown quickly since June 2005.
