The audition process is to determine if the applicant will perform with
the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra, or the Symphonette, depending on
which is best suited to the applicant's ability. Applications do not not
determine seating order within the section. Auditions are by appointment
only, and are held by the conductor and sectional coaches.

The MYSO on tour in Rome
Auditions will last approximately 10 minutes and are held in the Q
building of the Catonsville Campus of the Community College of Baltimore
County, and will consist of a prepared piece, scales, and sight-reading.
Knowledge of transposition is recommended for horn, trumpet and trombone
players. Percussionists should be prepared to audition on timpani, snare
drum and mallets.
Auditions include a prepared piece, of your choice, that will be
performed without accompaniment, and should demonstrate your present
level of accomplishment. Your selection does not have to be memorized.
Scales of your choice of two or three octaves, major and/or minor will
also be performed. Scales should also represent skill level.
You will be notified of audition results as soon as possible. Accepted
members are required to submit membership application with annual dues.
The Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra fee is $350.00, and the
Symphonette fee is $275.00
