My Background

I work in business intelligence, AKA marketing research, for Information Resources . I’m probably best described as a statistician / product development person. This is my IRI resume.

I live in Glenview, IL with my family, or what’s still around of them these days. I’m active in my local church Glenview New Church (Swedenborgian) and bicycle club Evanston Bicycle Club .  I’ve done some Midwestern bicycle touring, primarily week-long trips to/from the Chicago area to Camp Michigania for family vacations. We’re long-time first week campers, although we won’t be coming in 2004.

A life ambition is to bike across the US within the next few years. I hope this will not be in 2004, because that will only occur if I lose my job.

Leak-through pedestrian/bike paths in Glenview, Illinois

I've started keeping a list of these, and intend to put up a map when I can find a good one that won't violate copyright. Here’s two types of mapquest links to #4 and #5 below, but this isn’t really a good solution. I’d like something that shows the entire network.

A leak-through path is a place where bicyclists or pedestrians have a right-of-way, but cars do not. These can be valuable ways to connect neighborhoods to schools or parks so people can ride or walk rather than drive.

These are more common in cities or older suburbs that were designed around something besides the motor vehicle.

In no particular order:
1. Park Lane link around barrier: allowing transit E-W along Park Lane from Shermer to Knollwood.
2. Henking School: from Fairway Lane N to Henking School.
3. Huber Park: from Huber Park S to Central Rd & Huber Lane.
4. Roosevelt Park: west through parking lot to Fir St.

5. Roosevelt Park: west to Sumac. map of #5
6. Independence Blvd. in the Glen: north to Chestnut St and Park Center.
7. Glenview train station: from Grove/Depot west to Lehigh/Prairie.
8. North Glenview train station: from Old Willow/ Johns Drive west to Lehigh/West Lake.
9. Heatherfield/Ravine: Ravine Drive east to bike/ped path around Heatherfield basin.
10. Heatherfield/Westleigh: from bike/ped path around Heatherfield basin east to Westleigh and Jewel.
11. Heatherfield/north: from bike/ped path around Heatherfield north to park at Westleigh/Willow.
12. Longvalley Rd. bike/ped bridge over the West Fork, North Branch, Chicago River.
13. Central/Raleigh bike/ped bridge over the West Fork, North Branch, Chicago River.
14. Cole Park: Kenilworth/Wagner west to Kenilworth/East Ridgewood.
15. Pfingsten north from Rugen across RR tracks (careful!) to Pfingsten and Lake (and Glenbrook South HS).
16abcd. Flick Park connections east and west on Lindenwood, Crestwood, Springdale/Bette, Knollwood.
17. Glen Grove School: Tracy east through school to Knollwood.
18. Flick Park pedestrian bridge over Lake Avenue.
19. Castillian Ct under Milwaukee Avenue (next to RR tracks) to West Park.
20. Wilmette/Laramie west over old North Shore tracks.
21. Heatherfield/Sunset: from bike/ped path around Heatherfield basin east through playground and trailer park to Waukegan Rd.
22. Sunset Ridge / Drury east to Drury / Jeffrey. (Northfield).
23. Dominicks/Northfield west, bridge over Middle Fork, North Branch, Chicago River.
24. Sequoia/Chestnut gate at north end of Tall Trees subdivision.
25. Hoffman School/Johns Park: from Harrison St. to Central Rd.
26. through the park that used to be Rugen School (check name!) from Shermer east to Henley.
27. Linneman St. east from Henking School to Meadowlark Lane and Brassie Court.
28. Church St. north to Sleepy Hollow Park.
29. Stevens: west from Waukegan, through fence; connects to Sleepy Hollow Park.
30. Patriot Blvd. /Lake Avenue south through small park to Swainwood.
31. Manor Park: mid-block right of ways east to Harlem and west to Elm. (does it go to Shermer?)
32: Glenview train station lot: from west lot exit at Washington St. west to Grove St.

33. Prairie Lawn / Independence south to Prairie Lawn / Lake, and west to Huber / Lake.  Careful – this is definitely NOT a pedestrian-friendly way to cross Lake Avenue.

POSSIBLE: does Potter Rd north from Lake Avenue connect to Indian Ridge?
POSSIBLE: is there any link across the UP tracks near Sunset cemetery, linking to Willows subdivision?
