1. GEORGE WASHINGTON SR4 WATERS (WILLIAM ARIS3, JOHN CALVIN2, JOHN W1) was born March 09, 1827 in Tattnal Co.,Ga., and died August 06, 1864 in Howards Grove Hospital,Richmond,Va.. He married SARAH ANN THOMPSON December 20, 1849. She was born July 13, 1829 in Tattnall Co.,Ga., and died February 07, 1905 in Hamilton Co.,Fl..
Notes for GEORGE WASHINGTON SR WATERS:
George along with his brother,Emanuel moved with their father,William Aris to Madison Co.,Fl. around 1840-41 from Tattnall Co.,Ga.George enlisted in the Civil War on June 25,1863 at Boyntons in the 11th Florida Infantry.he deserted on Dec 23,1863 along with the rest of the men in his unit.
In his wfie,Sarah's pension application,she stated that George contracted Pneumonia and was sent to Howards Grove Hospital in Richmond,Va.,where he died .
This is from information sent to Clydie Russell from Tom Waters.The names and dates taken from Washington Waters family bible at Ollie Burnams.
The following information does not indicate that George deserted in Dec 1863 as stated above .
As I don't know which is for sure,I have added both .
Prior to the Civil War,George Sr,and his wife Sarah lived in Madison Co.,Fl.When George died while in service in the Civil War,Sarah and the children moved to Hamilton Co.,Fl. to live with relatives.The last two children born to her could not have been the children of George,Sr.,as there were born after his death in 1864 .
The following is from a file submitted to ancestry.com by another researcher :
George Washington Waters,CSA,enlisted in the Army on April 11,1862,he served in Capt.Peeks Co.'G'of the Eleventh Florida Infantry.He became ill with Pneumonia near Petersburg,Va,while in the service.He entered the Howard Grove Hospital on Aug.4,1864 and died Aug 6.1864 in Richmond,Va.,six days after the 'Battle of the Crater'at the seige of Petersburg during the Civil War .However if this true,then his last two children(Margaret Amamda and Benjamin Boswell)could not have been his .
He is buried in Military Cemetery in Richmond Cemetery.The inventory of his possessions list: 1 Blanket,I Jacket,2 pair of Pants and 1 Pair of shoes.
Prior to the Civil War,George,Sr and his wife ,Sarah lived in Madison Co.,Fl..Wgen George died in the War ,Sarah and the children moved to Hamilton Co.,Fl. to live with relatives.According to Mary C Waters,of Ft.Myers,Fl.,the last two children may have been born illegitimately,and the widow ,Sarah,was shunned by her community for her indiscretion.No record of another marriage for her has been found .

Dear wife,
I received your kind letter last nite and was glad to hear from you and verry glad to hear that you and the children was well,but I don't think that I ever will get well again tho I am some better in health than I have bin but I am in bad health yet.I could go to the hospital if I would but the fare is so bad there until I can't live there .
They don't give them nothing to eat there and we don't get half a nuff in camp,we have to buy nearly all that we eat and at the hiest price pork is fifty cents a pound,potatoes three dollars a bushel,syrup nor shugar cant be got at no price.
I have spent all the money I had but about four dollars and if they don't pay us off before lonf I shall be oblige to send home for money;but ta say that we will get our money the first of January and if we don't get it soon the company will leave this place certain.
You wrote that Will Baley would be down there for Christmas.If he comes you may take one of the barrels of syrup that sets in the back end of the shugar house and go with him and buy thread with it,but don't sell the barrel unless you get ten dollars for it.Take the barrel that sets next to the shugar barrel it has thirty gallons in it.If you don't go with Will you had better wate until I come home if I come in three or four months .
I cant tell you when I can come for I could not come now if I had the chance for I cant walk from here to Quincy in a week,but if I don't come before I shall come about the first of March if I am able to walk home.you rote that the old lady Raban wanted to no if John Rabon run away,he deserted at Quincy and done rite when he left there was fifteen left at the same time and the next nite seven more left and there is one company that eighty five has left.Our company is the best company in the batalion,the men all thinks the batalion will burst up and I hope it will .
I want you to feed the hogs good as long as long as you keep them and feed them on the trash corn til it is gone and then feed on the corn that I bowght and save the best of the corn that was made at home to get seed corn out of and kill the hogs on the new of the moon in January if the weather will admit I must come to a close for the present.
I hope to hear from you soon,nothing more only I remain your affectionate husband.
