The Davidson River drainage, within the Pisgah National Forest, hosts a large collection of trails with easy driving access, incredible scenery and unexpected seclusion, and a wide variety of trail conditions and crowds.

Avery Creek More Difficult 3.2 7  327 Beautiful creek, great scenery, wet, muddy trail. Many creek crossings, fairly steep climb at north end, assuming travel north.  No horses.
Bennet Gap More Difficult 2.9 11 * Seasonal use only.  Great views along the ridge, good technical downhill sections.
Black Mountain Most Difficult 9.8 16  127 Incredible views, lot o' rock outcroppings and boulders, waterbars, switchbacks, most is hard core rugged trail, the rest is technical. Very long, great descents. Needle sharp ridgeline riding. Part of the Black Mountain ride.
Buckhorn Gap More Difficult 4.6 23 103 Many creek crossings then stiff, moderately technical, rocky climb to the gap. Some erosion and waterbars. Part of the Black Mountain ride.
Buckwheat Knob More Difficult 1.5 24 122 --
Butter Gap More Difficult 2.7 25  123 Seasonal Use Only. Beautiful scenery, fun trail. Starts in Picklesimer Fields...flat, grassy area with crystal clean streamside riding, then a fast, gradual climb, and then a stiff, technical climb up to Butter Gap. Passes a waterfall.  Part of Picklesimer Fields ride.

Caney Bottom Loop More Difficult 2.0 27 361 Fast downhill singletrack, technical sections, log bridges.
Case Camp Ridge Most Difficult 1.7 30 119 --
Cat Gap Loop More Difficult ~1 open to bikes 32 * Seasonal Use Only.  Open to bikes from Fish Hatchery to Butter Gap trail seasonally.  Fairly technical, one neat waterfall  near a great campsite (listen for it down below--hidden), access to Picklesimer Fields. Fast, with jumps and waterbars.  Part of Picklesimer Fields ride.

Long Branch More Difficult 2.5 84 86 No huge elevation changes but fairly hilly, fast in places, nice scenery, technical sections, a few creek crossings, waterbars, a very fun trail. Part of Picklesimer Fields ride.
North Slope More Difficult 4.5 97 359 Seasonal Use Only.  Short, steep climb from Davidson River up to intersection with North Slope connector, waterbars, several neat bridges, fun downhill from North Slope Connector back to Davidson River campground.
Perry Cove Most Difficult 1.2 101 * --
Sycamore Cove More Difficult 3.2 127 * Substantial climbs, technical, rooty, several creek crossings--on one the trail becomes the creek for a few dozen feet.
Thrift Cove Easy 3.8 129 * --
Upper Avery Creek NO LONGER EXISTS Short road turned trail down to creek.  Muddy, horse use. Use mainly for access to other trails, or nice for short, easy ride to beautiful mountain stream. Part of Black Mountain ride.  THIS TRAIL HAS BEEN COMBINED/ RENAMED (WITH) THE BUCKHORN GAP TRAIL, but is still listed on older versions of the Trails Illustrated Pisgah map.
