Augusta Manthei
Augusta Louise Manthei was born Jan. 15, 1838 to August and Wilhelmena Abobham (the spelling may be incorrect) in the town of Margonin in the Prussian province of Posen.

At the time, Posen was controlled by Germans. But today it is part of Poland and is called Poznan province.

Little is known about Augusta's early years, except that she married April 29, 1858 to Gottlieb Otto. (sometimes known as von Otto.)

The couple had at least one child, Bertha Otto April 22, 1862.

Gottlieb died young after a fall from a horse.

Augusta remarried June 20, 1867 in the Lutheran church in Golancz, Posen. This second marriage was to Martin Sonnenberg.

Augusta and her family left Europe by way of Hamburg, arriving in New York City on Jan. 29, 1869 on the ship, Holsatia.

Martin and Augusta had at least four children survive into their teen years: Leo, Richard, Helena and Martha

Augusta died Sept. 5, 1919 in Gaylord, Smith County, KS.
