N0LX/mobile with APRS in vehicle  September 30, 2004
This image was created with UI-View/Street Atlas, and shows the track (in green) of me, N0LX-3 driving from home to Lookout Mountain and back in Golden, Colorado this evening. The track was created with an ad-on program called "UI-Height." This was my first attempt with tracking and appears to have worked 100 %. The straight line 'short-cut' across Hwy 93 is due to having traveled that distance between transmissions as the program connects the dot between each packet received.
It doesn't show on this map, but there is a 1,200 foot elevation change along the route and I was behind the mountain for part of the trip with no line-of-sight signal back to the house, yet there is full coverage. Rig is a 5 watt HT with a quarter-wave antenna on top of the truck. TNC is the Byonics "Tiny Trak 3" set for no digi-peater path. The receiving rig back at home was an FT-817 and a 2 meter J-pole antenna temporarily mounted up at 15 feet.
