In Training at Nadara
Amara's Khadiana, owned by
Lindsay Robbins, VMD, came to Nadara this past summer for her initial training. "Khadi" is a 4 year old bay Shagya-Arabian mare by the
athletic Shagya stallion *Oman and out of Khadija-Tam, a Bezatal granddaughter.
This mare has been royally bred for endurance! We are currently tryingto
talk Lindsay into taking Khadi on a competitive trail ride in the spring.
Ashley
Barnes, age 11, and her chestnut Arabian mare, Sahar Tara, have been
working hard in 1998 to enter their first endurance race this spring. Tara's
sire is by High Hopes++ and out of an AM Canadian Beau++ daughter. Her dam is a
grandaughter of Radamason ++. Ashley and Tara entered several local
hunter/jumper shows in 1998 and did very well earning a number of ribbons in
open competition. This past fall Ashley and Tara began dressage training and are
learning the basics. They have currently mastered turns on the forehand, leg
yielding and square turns.
El
Raisuli, (our 21 year old Arabian gelding who we have
had 20 years), had another great season in 1998 coming in top ten at the Vermont
50 and Northeast Challenge endurance rides as well as successfully competing in
open competition at several hunter/jumper shows. Raisuli and Ashley also came in
second at the Apple Blossom competitive trail ride. Raisuli is still in
excellent health and we plan to compete with him again in 1999. Raisuli
epitomizes the versatile Arabian. During his life he has been successful in
eventing, jumping, dressage and endurance competitions and has also enjoyed fox
hunting.
Zahara
Sabiya, age 18, arrived at Nadara on Tuesday August
31, 1999. We were unsuccessful in getting her bred this year. Jeroen
decided to give her a chance at what she was meant to do all her life - be an
endurance horse. So, that afternoon he saddled and bridled her for the
first time in her life. 24 days later Jeroen and Sabiya teamed up and
entered her first competitive trail ride. The distance was 25 miles and
included riding through storm drain tunnels, fording muddy streams and
negotiating soggy trails. The pair completed in terrific condition and
scored a 90 out of 100 possible points. Unfortunately in competitive trail
rides there is no consideration given to the horse that has to lug a heavy
weight rider! Sabiya is truly a remarkable girl.

Dragon, El Raisuli and Zahara Sabiya completing a 25 mile
competitive trail ride September 1999 in Groton, Massachusetts. Tracey,
Ashley and Jeroen riding.
