CHEVAL DE BOIS - New Forest Ponies
The first recorded presence of today's New Forest Ponies appeared in King Canute's Forest Law of 1016. The New Forest, once the hunting grounds for kings, is located in southwestern England.
The stock presently located on the Cheval De Bois Ranch in Hamilton, Montana had their origins in England. In the 1950's, the owners of Jacob's Farm in Seekonk, Massachusetts and the owners of Forest Hill Farm in Ontario, Canada traveled to England and returned with the championship stock of Great Britain. From these two farms have come the majority of the stock in the United States and Canada. Cheval De Bois is proud to have acquired outstanding stock from both of these farms.
The New Forest Ponies are the ideal pony for both children and adults. Their willing-to-please attitude makes training much easier. Their gait is not the choppy pony gait but like that of a horse.
The New Forest Ponies have taken top awards in driving, western equitation, western pleasure, English equitation, English pleasure and Eventing.
At the 1992 United States Dressage Federation Competition, a nine year old aboard a New Forest Pony took the bronze.
