The NJMEA SCUBA Club is a group of certified divers who belong to the New Jersey Marine Education Association. Members of the NJMEA SCUBA Club not only share their love for diving but are also dedicated to the education of protecting and preserving our ocean's delicate marine ecosystems and the life within. The NJMEA SCUBA Club is a member of the New Jersey Council of Diving Clubs. Although a member of the Council, due to our nonprofit status, the NJMEA SCUBA Club abstains from voting on issues regarding state and federal legislation. Since its formation in 2001, the NJMEA SCUBA Club has sponsored SCUBA certification courses, group dives off the Jersey coast, the annual "Marine Educators Day" at Dutch Springs, and has published numerous articles in the "Sea Horse" (the NJMEA's quarterly Newsletter).

NJMEA SCUBA CLUB'S
FIRST EVENT IS A SUCCESS!
SUMMER 2002
On August 8, 2002 the NJMEA SCUBA Club sponsored it's very first event at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The event featured workshops on the Dutch Springs quarry, UV radiation and its effects on phytoplankton, zebra mussels and water quality, and SCUBA certification. The day also included a dive into the quarry at Dutch Springs. The event was well attended and the particiapants had a fun and educational experience.

ORIGIN OF THE
NJMEA / SCUBA CLUB
1999 - 2001
In 1999 the NJMEA Board of Directors began to consider the idea of having SCUBA and Dive Clubs become part of the NJMEA. After all, SCUBA instructors and divers certainly fit the category of "Marine Educators." For two years the Board discussed possible candidates to represent SCUBA on our diversified Board of Directors. In December of 2001, board member Neil Gilbert nominated John Telencio to be the NJMEA SCUBA representative. In 2002 the NJMEA SCUBA Club was formed and in August of 2002 the very first NJMEA/SCUBA event took place at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
