WHO WE ARE
The Coalition for Peace and Justice is a regional chapter of Peace Action, the country's largest grassroots peace and justice organization, with over 80,000 members nationwide. The Coalition for Peace and Justice covers the Southern New Jersey area, from Atlantic City to Cape May to Salem.
ISSUES WE WORK ON
ALTERNATIVES TO WAR
We work to promote peaceful solutions to international problems so that war will no longer be used to solve international conflicts. We do this by working on a number of issues:
NUCLEAR WEAPONS ABOLITION
The Coalition for Peace and Justice was founded in 1982 as part of the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign. Thus the abolition of nuclear weapons worldwide has always been a cornerstone
issue for us. We work to support international treaties that stop the spread of nuclear weapons and that reduce the
number of nuclear weapons kept in national stockpiles. To that end, we support the Comprehensive Test Ban, the
Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the SALT/START treaties between Russia and the US.
PEACE ECONOMY
We support converting excessive military spending to human needs. We oppose the massive increase in the military budget, and oppose the "Pentagon Pork" and "Corporate Welfare" that waste our tax dollars on Cold War weapons no longer needed.
WEAPONS TRAFFICKING
We work to stop the sale of weapons to dictators and human rights abusers abroad (the Code of Conduct) and
to control gun sales and gun violence at home (Ceasefire-NJ).
CONFLICT RESOLUTION
We work to strengthen the United Nations and other international peacemaking organizations abroad and support conflict resolution work at home and in the schools.
