What Is Ra All About?

Ra is a social nudist group, open to all gay, bisexual, and gay-sensitive men over the age of 21, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, disability or physical appearance. Ra holds regular meetings and social events for the enjoyment of its members and guests. The group has an annually elected board of officers as well as a constitution and by-laws addressing issues related to membership, meetings and activities, fees, elections, rules of conduct, confidentiality, photography, and many other items pertaining to the ongoing operation of the organization. Members receive a monthly publication assembled by the editor which advises of planned activities and events of Ra and other related men's nudist groups. Members are encouraged to contribute related materials for publication in the newsletter. Monthly gatherings or parties are held at a number of venues with most being held at the homes of our members. All members are expected to participate in planning, preparing, and hosting at least one event each calendar year.

Ra members also have the opportunity to join nudist gatherings of similar nationwide and global organizations. Those gatherings are usually campouts in various regions of the United States, or other countries. Nudism is a very popular way of life in many parts of the world, and the gay community is an important part of that movement.

Thoughts on Our Philisophy

The human body is wholesome and good. However, society often teaches us to be ashamed of our bodies and cover them with clothing. Being naked in social situations helps us shed that shame and teaches us to accept our physical bodies as they are. It encourages respect and appreciation for our bodies in all their natural beauty, imperfection, and diversity. This enables us to enjoy our lives more fully. The simple act of removing our clothing can be very liberating and exhilarating, particularly in a social environment. People tend to be friendlier and less aggressive, more agreeable and open while naked. We have chosen to enjoy life, NATURALLY!

Our society also links nudity with sexual expression. While those two elements often coexist, the existence of one does not require the other. Our focus is on the enjoyment of social interaction, however we prefer to be nude. We are mature enough to realize that sexual energy is a strong force in our lives, and do not deny its importance. Yet, we treat that no differently than any of the other forces which keep us living, breathing individuals. We are often asked about the "embarrassment" of having an erection in a social environment. As with all of our natural processes, an erection is neither a source of shame nor embarrassment, particularly in the company of male nudists. It is just another natural part of life that is to be accepted and appreciated for what it is. Like anything good, enjoy it while it lasts!
