Oil Filter Wrench Complaints
God bless America, and the brave men and women of all nations and religious beliefs that have given and will give the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the concept of humanity and freedom.                 S. Edwards
I'm Steve Edwards and welcome to one of the few sites on the Web where your complaints are actually encouraged!  This web site was developed primarily for two reasons.

Reason #1
To provide a venue for the frustrated "backyard auto mechanic" and "do-it-yourselfers" by allowing them an opportunity to vent their yard rage which typicially results when attempting to perform what should be one of the easiest and least challenging of routine automobile maintenance tasks...changing the motor oil and filter.

And what is the usual culprit that inevitably reduces us to swearing like a drunken sailor on a Saturday night? The nearly useless oil filter wrench!

While tool manufacturers are constantly promoting their latest, greatest "Robo" this-and-that tool to make our common tasks easier...the lowly oil filter wrench still lingers in the petrified forest of the 60's and 70's.  True, there have been a few more recent developments...if one is able to find them.  However, even those are still designed around the ancient premise of ample space surrounding the oil filter.  And the one or two newer oil filter wrench designs that can actually fit into very tight spaces...well, let's just say my sweet, little grandmother could produce an equally dependable grip.

Gone are the days before air conditioning, air pollution controls, and engine sensors became standard equipment...when one could simply pop open the hood, and there, staring you in the face and open to the world was the humble oil filter.  During those golden years, the icon of oil filter wrenches and the one still predominately displayed on market shelves---the collapsing band-type with a handle---worked marvelously where ample room for maneuverability was plentiful and not sacrificed to the "gods" of modern progress. Today, buried beneath a mass of cables and other engine parts, a person should be congratulated if the oil filter can even be found in less than ten minutes!

Requiring a large degree of free space surrounding the oil filter in order to achieve a grip, and then even more room to break the filter free...the classic band-type oil filter wrench is no longer the golden-haired child it once was.  No doubt, some of you may be thinking, "Well, there is the one-size, cupped-shaped filter wrench that fits on top of the same-sized filter."  The answer to all of our prayers right?  To those of you that have used, or more precisely, would liked  to have used that particular wrench already know its limitations.

So where is this leading?  Well, don't get mad...get even!  This is the opportunity for those of you that have fussed, cussed, and thrown a tool or two over in the neighbor's backyard out of shear disgust from having to use oil filter wrench technology that won't grip, fit, and just plain won't do the job!  This specialized web site is your chance to let major (and smaller) tool manufacturers see how you---the consumers of their products---actually regard the usefulness and quality of the merchandise we spend our hard earned dollars on.  And seeing your comments they will...that's a promise, which will be explained further as Reason #2 for this site .  So post your complaint and really let 'em have it (keeping proper decorum in mind, thank you very much)!  Feel free to include as much detail as necessary to fully describe your dissatisfaction and the steps taken to "get around" the problem.  And while you're at it, take a moment to see what others have had to say on this issue as well.  You'll be surprised how many other guys "feel your pain".
