My First 4x4

My first 4x4 was a 1986 Chevy Blazer. I purchased it with 75,000 miles and sold it with close to 150,000 miles. I had to buy a new transmission 1 month after purchasing the truck. New tires followed close behind. Later a new engine (which never worked well). It also required starters and altenators to be replaced about every year.
All my vehicles get the following additions; Off Road Lights, warning lights, CB Radio, Scanner, Cel Phone, Radar detector and side mounted spot lights.
I also carry the following at all times; First Aid Kit, jumper cables, tow strap, snow chains, tools, water, food, blankets, flashlights and batteries (at least 4). Tarps, 10 flares, 3 reflective triangles, Hi-Lift jack

The LAST and WORST time I got stuck. It cost $100 for a tow truck to get me out. Famous last words before I drove into the hole "I don't think you're going to make it" (my cousin Brad)

My Second 4x4

I traded the first truck in for the CD changer they added to my 97 S10 Blazer. I bought it with 24,000 miles and sold it with 80,000 miles. I got into a very bad car crash (once again with my cousin Brad, His wife Angie and their son Alex. I crashed into a brand new Ford Explorer. The explorer rolled and was totalled, fortunatly the driver of the Explorer and none of my passengers were injured. After $8,000 my truck looked as good as new. I added my usual complement of off road and warning lights. I really enjoyed the vehicle, it rode nice, was competent in the 4x4 department and got decent mileage. It only got stuck once and it was quickly pulled to safety. I used it to free several stuck vehicles

One one trip I drove to Colorado to mountain climb and 4x4 with my Dad. We drove to (I mean up) Mount Princeton and also over mosquito pass between Leadville and Denver

My current 4x4 is this 99 Chevy Suburban. I bought it with 12 miles and it currently has 22,000 just one year later. I added my usual complement of off road and warning lights. I have had absolutly no problems with it yet. I did add a second battery (optima) for backup use and wired it directly to the starter with extreme duty welding cable. It hasn't been stuck yet. :-)

Near the Golden Gate Bridge. My favorite project this year was working for a company in San Jose. I'd move there if I could make triple the money - so I could afford it.
