Here you can see the mechanical tachometer drive. It is driven by a spade which engages in a slot filed in the front sprocket bolt head. There is a slim inner plate with two studs welded to it which goes on the inside of the chaincase. See the resources page for a source.

Here is the chaincase side. The cracking will be difficult to weld due to the thin section so I am machining another chaincase to match. Click here for the progress.

In the center is a Smiths mechanical tachometer which is the same size as the correct one but not quite the right model. This one reads to 12,000 rpm but the original type only goes to 6,000 rpm. Gaggs of Nottingham has been suggested as a source for the tach head unit.

Shown is the tachometer drive cable found on the scooter. I will have another one made when I have the correct tach head unit.

This copy of Arthur Francis' 1967 tuning catalog shows the same setup as an accessory. Thank you to Jon Murch from N. Devon for the AF images!
