Lunar Eclipse Nov 8, 2003 Overlooking the Chincoteague Refuge
I was able to catch this lunar eclipse down in Chincoteague, VA (famous for their Chincoteague/Assateague ponies). We stayed at the Refuge Inn and I set up on their birding observation deck that overlooks a marsh and the Chincoteague wildlife refuge. It was a nice spot, although the lights from a local McDonalds were too bright. The weather cooperated for the most part. The moon cleared a group of trees with about 10 minutes prior to the eclipse, but a single cloud covered the moon. I thought I was going to keep my “cloud eclipsed” eclipse track record, but luckily that quickly cleared. I've put together a composite of the eclipse photos using Corel Draw. Unfortunately, I had to pull the very first photo of the moon from my files, but the rest are from the 8th. The light skirting around the moon was a treat as it reached totality.

The individual photos were taken with a Olympus C-3040 camera, afocal using a 35mm plossil, on a 6" f8 Celestron Dob (Setup Details). The initial and final photos were taken at f3.6, 1/200th sec, ISO 100. On either side of totality the photos were taken at f1.8, 1/20th sec, ISO 200 and the totality photo was taken at f1.8, 1/5th sec, ISO 200.
