Creating "weathered wood" by Painting with Dry Pigments
You can achieve a very realistic weathered wood look and add rust and grime to the hardware using dry weathering pigments, such as those offered by Bragdon Enterprises and Dr. Ben's.  The techniques are very flexible and forgiving!
