This is part of my personal collection which i have been amassing since as long as i can remember, though i've only become really really interested in rocks since about 1998.

THe best place to get rocks and crystals in the NW Arkansas area is Hot Springs. Within the city of fayetteville though, Passages has the best rock selection, although it seems pretty meagar if you're a rock hound.

So why do i like stones so much? Well, for many reasons. One is that it's like anything that people collect. There are rare stones, unusual ones and all different types of things that are availible. Part of the fun of rock collecting is finding them , whether it's in nature, at a rock shop or at a show. Another is that rocks impart to those nearby their specific energies. Each type of rock, quartz crystal, jade, hematite, etc. has it's own energies, it's own vibrations that it emanates. Don't scoff! are you wearing a quartz watch? well even if you're not, you should know that quartz crystals are used to regulate the clock's ticking because the crystals vibrate, quite minutely, at a very regular rate. So every stone has a particular vibration and through various people's meditations with the stones there has been comprised a large body of knowledge on what each stone is good for. I highly recommend "Love is in the Earth" by Melody if you are interested in exploring this further.
I use stones in meditation, in rituals, in chakra clearing and balancing, and just to have around me. One thing that i do is to take a stone that is the color of each of the seven primary chakras ( red, orange, yellow, green, bright blue, indigo, and purple ( or clear)), lie down and then place them on the are where each chakra resides down the vertical center of my body. I visualize the stone's energy flowing into the chakra and cleansing it of any unneeded energies, giving it an extra boost and bringing it into balance. I also find that carrying a quartz crystal in my pocket uplifts my spirit and i've heard that just having a quartz crystal on your person increases the size of your aura tenfold.

Plants also benefit from Stones' energies. Here is a picture of my Hobbit Plant (thats what it's called!!) with a piece of jade placed in the pot with it so as to facilitate growth. I use jade because i feel a special affinity with this stone and it's energies are very suitable to working with plants and growing things (as well as working with the heart chakra and other things.)

Here's a nice rarity. A Magnesium crystal cluster. It's hard to get a good picture of this guy because of the color and somewhat reflective nature of the cluster. I think it looks like a burnt piece of coral. Very beautiful. My Grandmother bestowed this upon me at a Rock Show in Amarillo in 2002. Thaks Grandma )
