Patty Bodine and Marlene Hoke are Birth Partners...a professional doula service in Springfield Mo. When not attending births as a doula, we are Surgical Technicians employed for many years in labor and delivery at St. Johns Hospital. WE HAVE BEEN PARTNERS IN DELIVERING BABIES FOR THE PAST 13 YEARS...NOW WE WANT TO BE PARTNERS WITH YOU.

Labor Support

Doula is a Greek word meaning "women's servant". Doula refers to a support person {not a loved one}, trained and experienced in childbirth, who provides continuous emotional support and physical comfort to laboring women.

WHY A DOULA?...Studies show that when a doula cares for a woman she is more likely to have a reduction in: analgesia, oxytocin augmentation, use of forceps, length of labor, anxiety and depression, post-partum depression and increased maternal/fetal bonding. (See DONA link below for more facts about doulas). We are there IN ADDITION TO, not instead of your partner. Ideally the doula and the partner work together to create a memorable experience for both of you.

PATTY

Hello,my name is Patty Bodine.I am a Certified Doula (DONA),a Certified Breastfeeding Educator (LCS),a Certified Chidbirth Educator (ACBE),and one half of Birth Partners.I have a great husband of 20 years and 3 wonderful children. My family and I are lifelong residents of the Willard area. We are involved in our church, community and school activities. I am a Certified Surgical Techician in Labor and Delivery at St. John's where I have been working for 12 years. I spent 9 years in various areas of the hospital but truly enjoy assisting the doctors deliver babies. The birth process is an amazing experience and I feel very lucky to be involved in the "starting and adding to" of families. Being a doula is a natural extension of my L&D experience and allows me to be one-on-one which is very rewarding for me. I look forward to working with my clients to make their birth experience a great one.

MARLENE

My name is Marlene Hoke and I am also a Doula, a Certified Breastfeeding Educator (LCS),a Certified Child Birth Educator (ACBE), and a Surgical Technician at St John's. I have had an active role in delivering hundreds of babies during my 19 years of experience in L&D. My husband and I experienced first hand how precious this event was 12 years ago with the birth of our daughter. We remember quite vividly even the smallest details. The clinical aspect of my job is very exciting but there is so much more to having a baby. It's giving a hand a squeeze, wiping a brow, breathing with you and telling you that "you can do this" when you most want to give up. It's laughing and crying and the realization of a miracle. It's making sure every baby comes in to this world loved from the start. It's supporting your decisions because you're the only one who can choose what's right for you. It's making families.
