A Pleasant History
Pleasant Odom
August 5, 1831 - June 1, 1915
Elizabeth McKinzie Odom
1829 - March 6, 1884
It all began with this man, Pleasant Odom.  He was born August 5, 1831 to a nineteen year old, unwed woman by the name of Mary Odom.  Although, she later married a Mr. Lorenzo Glenn, Pleasant still carried the name of Odom.  Some believe it was because he and "Grandpa Odom" (Mary's father) had a strong relationship.

A 5'9" young Pleasant caught the eye of Elizabeth McKinzie and they were soon married on January 7, 1851.  Pleasant served in the military during the Civil War where he is was often described as "an excellent horseman and marksman with the rifle."  After the war, the family began to slowly make their way west.  Nine children were born to Pleasant and Elizabeth.  The third child, James Thomas Odom is where I descend from.

Mary Isabella Beddingfield Odom
October 27, 1861 - November 10, 1924
James was married to Mary Isabella Beddingfield on March 4, 1880 in Cuba, Alabama.
In 1883/1884 Pleasant Odom took his family (married children and their families
included) to Texas.  The families settled in many different areas,
most being in Tyler County on what was and is still known as the William Prescott survey.  It is also known as "Pleasant Hill."  (There is even a church named for our little area which now congregates in a newer building on FM 2992, about half of a mile from its original site.)

In March of 1904, Pleasant Odom sold his son, James, 160 acres, being the west half
of the William Prescott survey.  There he raised a total of 13 children, my
great-grandpa, Heber Buck Odom, being the 10th born.
Heber Buck Odom married Frances Rheuheama (Ruby) on February 14, 1919 right here in what is now known as Odomville.  Together they raised 7 children.  Kenneth Earl Odom (my Grandpa) being number two.

At this point the brand of the Flying O was deemed the homestead marking.
