I am related to one of Jamaica's national heroes. According to my grandfather, Walbridge Bogle (my mother's father), Paul Bogle, who was hanged in 1865, and who was a leader of the Morant Bay Rebellion, is his father father's brother. That makes Paul Bogle my grandfather's granduncle, my mother's great uncle, and my great, great uncle. According to my grandfather, when Paul Bogle and William Gordon (another of Jamaica's heroes) were hanged in the town square of Morant Bay, Paul Bogle's brother (Moses Bogle), my great, great grandfather, was also scheduled to be hanged as a part of the conspiracy. Moses' life was spared, due to the plea of his employers who were members of the political system.
